A Trio Of Triple Time Stamped Cards For A Glitter Pot Class

On Thursday afternoon I ran a Triple Time Stamping class at the Glitter Pot using the Penny Black 'Petal Party' stamp set.  Triple Time Stamping is a fab technique, really effective and is so easy to achieve!  You cut three panels (that are to be stamped on) to the size you need, use temporary adhesive to stack the three layers together and then stamp on all three panels at the same time.  As you're stamping on more than one layer it's very likely that you'll get gaps in the ink around the edges - but fear not!  You now permanently adhere each stamped panel to a mat layer - making sure to get the panels the right way round so that the stamped design marries up - and the mat layers hide any gaps, marvellous!

There's a measurement formula you can choose to follow with the triple time stamping technique to make it easier.  I'll give you my mat and stamped layer measurements and you'll see that the formula is to decrease panel sizes by 1".

For the 'Life is Beautiful' card mat layers were cut to:
5 1/4" square
4 1/4" square
3 1/4" square

White stamped layers were cut to cut to:
5" square
4" square
3" square

For the 'Smiles' card a C6 sized card was trimmed to 5 3/4" tall and mat layers were cut to:
5 3/4" x 4 1/8" (to cover entire card front)
3 1/2" x 3"
2 1/2" x 2"

White stamped layers were cut to:
4 1/4" x 3 3/4"
3 1/4" x 2 3/4"
2 1/4" x 1 3/4"

For the 'Dream' card a C6 sized card was trimmed to 5 3/4" wide and mat layers were cut to:
5 3/4" x 4 1/8"
4 3/4" x 3 1/8"
3 3/4" x 2 1/8"

White stamped layers were cut to:
5 1/2" x 3 7/8"
4 1/2" x 2 7/8"
3 1/2" x 1 7/8"

For the 'Life is Beautiful' card I cut three squares of white card (3", 4" and 5"), used removable tape to keep my stack of three panels in place, stamped the outline flower and stem in VersaFine Spanish Moss ink, stamped the sentiment and solid flower in VersaFine Deep Lagoon ink and then adhered the stamped panels to mat layers of Bazzill Bahama CS.  The largest blue mat measures 5 1/4" square and was glued to the front of a white 5 1/4" card base.  I then stamped two leaves and a flower on another piece of card, fussy cut them, shaped them and popped them up.  To finish off I popped up pale green Candi Dots on the flower centres.

I made the second card rectangular, starting off with an A6 sized card base which I trimmed so it was 5 3/4" tall.  After stacking the three white layers together with removable tape I stamped several outline leaf images in VersaFine Smokey Grey ink.  Before gluing the stamped panels to the aqua card mats I inked the edges with Peacock Feathers Distress Ink - which I also did for the sentiment panel.  I added the grey dotty grosgrain ribbon to the largest aqua panel before gluing the panel to the front of my card base.  I stamped three outline flowers onto aqua card, fussy cut them, inked the edges, shaped them and popped them up.  To embellish each flower centre I popped up a silver Candi Dot and then added three aqua gems to each Candi Dot.

I took my Woodware 'Indian Summer' and 'Indian Flowers' stamps with me as I thought they would be ideal for this technique - I tried it and it was a success!  I didn't have time to make an actual card but there was enough time for the ladies to stamp their three panels.  They took the panels away with them, together with the mat layer panels I cut, so they can finish another Triple Time Stamped card at their leisure at home.

Yesterday I stamped the 'Indian Summer' background stamp on my three panels using Memento Grape Jelly ink but that's as far as I got.  I spent some time in my craft room this morning and finished the card.  The ladies went home with purple CS mat layers but I didn't cut any for myself  so I had a rootle in my stash to find a different colour to use.  The Indian theme of the stamps prompted me to opt for a bright jewel like turquoise to go with the purple - in real life the colour is brighter  than the photo shows!  Before gluing the stamped panels to the mat layers I inked the edges with Grape Jelly ink.  I stamped a flower from the 'Indian Flowers' set in VersaFine Onyx Black ink onto the turquoise CS and heat embossed with clear powder.  I fussy cut the flower, stamped the sentiment and popped up the flower.  To complete the card I added some purple gems underneath 'Dream'.

I really hope the ladies enjoyed the classes I ran on Thursday - I know I spent a fab day with them!

Getting In A Spin At The Glitter Pot - Two Spinner Class Cards

What a grey and rainy day today was - perfect crafting weather!  This morning I ran a class at the Glitter Pot - the lovely ladies who came along got in a spin with me as I ran a Spinner Cards class.  I love how fun these cards are and it's great fun sharing them with other card makers!  To make a spinner card you sandwich thin thread between two back to back shapes and suspend the element within an aperture.  Before placing the card in an envelope you twist the thread a few times and then when the recipient opens the card the element spins round. These are perfect cards for youngsters - and for those adults who are still very much young at heart!

This square card features a hot air balloon spinner element.  I applied Stormy Sky and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks to a die cut rectangle and glued that on the inside of the card.  I die cut some clouds, edged each cloud with Stormy Sky ink and glued those to the rectangle panel - I love how they look behind the suspended balloon!

Before the class started I bought some new ink blending sponges (Smoothies made by Creative Expressions) so we could try them out on the class.  The packaging said "perfect ink blending every time" and I wanted to know if they'd live up to that claim!  The Smoothies are egg shaped, latex sponges, very comfortable to hold - and they are brilliant, we were very impressed!  I tried a Smoothie with a stencil, just dabbing ink with the sponge through the stencil and the results were impressive there too!

For the other spinner card I chose a very springlike colour combo and suspended a butterfly as a spinner element.  I inked the edges of the yellow paper and the the sentiment panel with Dusty Concord Distress Ink. I added a cluster of punched flowers and finished off the card with some yellow pearls.

A yellow and purple combo always make me think of Spring - must be those lovely pansy colours!  I'm particularly fond of these tiny violas in yellow and purple with the adorable name of "Johnny Jump Up"!

In the afternoon I ran a Triple Time Stamping class - stay tuned, I'll share those cards very soon!

Yellow Rosy Birthday Card

My sweet friend Wendy asked if she could make a Mother's Day card when she next came to my place to make a card.  Wendy's mum loves roses, her favourite colour is yellow and Wendy wanted to make a square card so that was part of the design sorted!

Wendy came over on Saturday morning and this is the card I'd made - I made my card for a birthday though, rather than for Mother's Day.  I dry embossed a piece of Bazzill Bling 'Hollywood' CS, mounted that onto a Basic Gray mat, added the ribbons and adhered the panel to the front of a 5 3/4" square Pool Party card base.  I stamped the large solid roses with stamped off once Daffodil Delight ink and the large outline roses with Memento Cantaloupe ink.  For the small flowers I used stamped off once Pool Party ink followed by Coastal Cabana ink and for the leaves I used stamped off once Pear Pizzazz ink followed by Old Olive ink.  I die cut and adhered the stitched square panels, stamped the sentiment and arranged the fussy cut flowers and leaves - popping up the flowers.

Here's the inside and the envelope.  I always enjoy stamping with the beautiful SU! 'Stippled Blossoms' two step stamping set!

Flowers, Bees & Ladybirds Happy Birthday Card In A Box

A few weeks ago Angela and Janet came to my home to make two cards using the SU! 'Hardwood' stamp.  I showed them cards plus photos of cards I've made using this fabulous stamp and they particularly liked this card in a box.  The ladies asked if they could make one next time they came for a class.  They came on Thursday afternoon and this is the card I designed for them to make.  Not exactly the same design as my previous version, I've changed a few details.

This card in a box fits inside a C6 envelope and I used Crumb Cake CS for the base.  I stamped the Hardwood stamp onto the base using Soft Suede ink.  I rounded the corners and inked the edges with Soft Suede ink applied with a dauber.  The flowers and bees were stamped onto watercolour paper, coloured using inks and a waterbrush and cut out with their matching dies.  I used a clear Gelly Roll pen to add shimmer to the bees wings.  I attached the bees to strips of acetate so it looks like they're flying and buzzing happily amongst the flowers.  I stamped the sentiment, cut it out with a label die and popped up the die cut ladybird.

Here's another photo.

Here's the back of the card and the envelope.  I popped up the die cut ladybird - I love the open wings on this die cut shape, she looks all set to take to the air!

I wrote these instructions on how to make a card in a box if you'd like to check them out.

Supplies:
Stamps: SU! 'Hardwood' background stamp, Hero Arts 'Flower Garden' stamps & dies combo set, 'Happy Birthday Wishes' from SU! 'Simply Sketched' set, 'good things' from an old Hero Arts set

Pink Woodgrain & Chloe Stem Birthday Wishes Card

It's no secret that I love the SU! Hardwood stamp but I've tended to stick with using Soft Suede ink on Crumb Cake CS to get a good faux wood look.  While in the class room at the Glitter Pot recently a card on display really caught my eye - it was a black and white card and had pink woodgrain.  It also used dies that I just happen to have in my stash so it was easy for me to CASE the card!

To create my pretty pink woodgrain I stamped with Victorian Velvet Distress Ink onto Pink Pirouette CS - oh, I love that combo!  I inked the square and oval woodgrain panels and the sentiment oval with the Distress ink applied with a sponge dauber.  I popped up the sentiment element over the strip of black and white gingham ribbon.  I die cut three Chloe Stems in black CS, popped them up and blinged them with pale pink gems.

Here's the inside and the envelope.  This birthday card was sent out to my sister-in-law in Spain, I hope she liked it!

Supplies:
Stamps: SU! 'Hardwood' background stamp, 'birthday wishes' from Personal Impressions 'Medium Everyday Messages' set, inside sentiment from Hero Arts 'Yummy Treats' set

'One Layout, Four Cards' Glitter Pot Class Cards

On Saturday I ran a 'One Layout, Four Cards' class at the Glitter Pot - I had a great day with a lovely bunch of ladies!  I very often hear card makers say they struggle to come up with ideas, that sometimes when they sit down to create nothing comes to mind.  I find sketch layouts a wonderful way to kickstart the mojo and a fab jumping off point so I felt that would be a good idea for a class.

I designed a layout and then made four different cards using the layout but altering the design each time by rotating the sketch and using different shapes.  I also changed things up a bit by making each card in a different style.  You don't have to slavishly copy a layout, just keep to the main elements and have fun experimenting with rotating and flipping, using different shapes and moving elements around.

Here's the layout:

Here are the four cards all together.

In the morning the class made the owl card and the flower trio card.  Here's the owl card closed.

Here's the cute and fun style owl card open on display - I used the layout 'as is' but added a fun twist by turning the card into a kickstand card.  This layout is perfect for a kickstand card!  I cut a 5 3/4" square of white CS and then formed the kickstand by scoring an A4 length strip of white CS in half and gluing the back of the strip to the back of the square base.  I covered the front of the white strip with green CS and then added a strip of brown Core'dinations CS that had been embossed with a feathers embossing folder and scuffed with sandpaper.  The owl was paper pieced.  I added punched white circles and bronze gems to the eyes but a few ladies on the class used googly eyes - to great effect!  The feathers under the sentiment were embossed, scuffed and fussy cut.

Here's the flower trio Happy Birthday card.  I chose the colour combo from some of the colours in the pretty butterfly paper.  With this card I flipped the layout upside down and used a clean and classic style.  More fussy cutting with the stamped flowers here!

In the afternoon the class made the kraft flower card and the stars card.  The flower card is in the shabby, distressed style and I rotated the layout to a landscape orientation.  The shabby bloom was made by stacking six die cut flowers which had been spritzed with water and scrunched up.  I fixed the layers together with a brad and covered the brad with a large pearl.  The strip of dotty paper was distressed with an edge distressing tool and I inked the edges of the lavender flower shape and the brown circle with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.  I also applied some of the ink to the dotty grosgrain ribbon.  One of the ladies on the class inked around the whole card front with Walnut Stain ink and I thought that looked fab so I quickly inked my card too - but this photo was taken before the class so shows the uninked card!  Thank you Janet M!

Lastly is this clean and simple stars card.  It's totally flat so great for posting - but there's a stylish touch to the card with a cut out aperture.  Here's the card closed.

Here's the card open.  The large die cut silver star was glued to the card front and then a smaller star die was placed over the centre and a star aperture cut out.

Here's what the card looks like on the inside.  The sentiment circle is glued behind the star aperture.

I hope I demonstrated to the ladies that a sketch layout is a valuable resource - especially if  you're having a creative block or you need to create a card in a hurry.  A printout of the layout was given to everyone on the class for them to use in the future.  I am running another 'One Layout, Four Cards' class in April with a brand new layout and set of cards.  I'd love for this class idea to really take off so that I can create a 'Layout Library' - let's wait and see!

Mod Square Background & Hearts Happy Valentine's Day Card

This is the Valentine's card I gave to my hubby Owen, made using simple stamping, die cutting and punching - and his fave combo of black, white and red!  I cut a square of black CS and then cut out the squares using my new Poppystamps 'Mod Square Background' die.  I used the 'Surely Stitched Square' die to get the three red narrow strips.  I stamped the sentiment in VersaMark, heat embossed it with Red Tinsel powder, cut it out using a 'Cross Stitched Frame Border' die and I popped it up.  I die cut the 'Mod Square Background' again using red glitter CS and inset red squares into six of the smaller square apertures.  I popped up punched hearts inside the larger square apertures and that completed the front.

Here's the inside and the envelope.  I'm very happy to say Owen loved his card!

I'm at the Glitter Pot today running a class and I'm really looking forward to spending a day with a bunch of lovely ladies!  I'll share the cards I made for the class here on the blog in a few days.

Holly Joy Card - CASE-ing Christmas Challenge #6

I was determined to play along with the CASE-ing Christmas challenge this week to add another Christmas card to the 2015 stash.  This week we're to CASE this fab card made by Ellen.

I love the colours Ellen used for her card so I opted for kraft, white, red and green - such a fresh, crisp look I think.  I also CASEd the layout and Ellen's use of holly and the word 'Joy'.  My 'Joy' Sizzlits die has been in my stash for many years but it hasn't seen the light of day for a very long time!  I glued panels of kraft and white CS to a Garden Green mat layer, added cheery red and white gingham ribbon and glued the layer to the front of a 4 3/4" square white card base.  I die cut the 'joy' square twice, once from kraft CS and again from white CS.  I inlaid the white 'joy' into the kraft square and applied Glossy Accents to the word.  I punched the holly leaves and used red gems for berries.  I popped up the 'joy' square and finished the front by adding some red sequins.

Here's the inside and the envelope.

For a few years I was on the Design Team of a Christmas card challenge blog which made it easy for me to make my Christmas cards throughout the whole year.  Even though I'm no longer on a DT  I still want to make my Christmas cards throughout the year - here's hoping I'll keep up with that good habit!

Stamps: Hero Arts 'Holiday Cheer' clear set

Tools: Sizzix 'Joy' Sizzlits die, Martha Stewart 'Holly Branch' punch, square Nestabilities dies

February 2015 Card Group Projects

Yesterday we had our February card group get together and a fun time was had by all!  Crafting, chatting and laughing with a bunch of lovely ladies - plus a cuppa and some biccies - what's not to enjoy?!

I saw one of my card group ladies, Monica, in the Glitter Pot a couple of weeks ago and she showed me a card on display that she really liked and I said we could make something similar at card group.  I die cut the solid butterfly shape from the patterned paper using the Sizzix Dimensional Cutting Pad which left the centre of the butterfly shape attached to the paper.  I glued the patterned paper panel to a black CS mat layer, glued the layer to the front of a 5 1/4" square white card and folded up the wings.  I die cut the outline butterfly and antenna and glued them over the top - only applying glue at the body portion so that the outline wings have dimension too.  I stamped and punched the sentiment and popped that up over a strip of black CS.

Here's the inside and envelope.

This card involves just simple stamping and punching and has a colour combo of  Pool Party, Smoky Slate and Basic Gray - inspired by the packaging of Laura Ashley Imperial Bloom toiletries that I received as a Christmas gift.  I stamped the floral image twice in Smoky Slate ink along the side of the A6 sized card base.  I stamped the image again onto a piece of white CS, trimmed it to size and used an inverted corner rounder punch on three corners.  I inked the edges of the panel with Pool Party ink, glued it to a Basic Gray CS mat layer and popped up the stamped and punched sentiment circle.  To finish the front I added aqua metallic nailheads.

Here's the inside and envelope.

This next card features lots of die cutting using some new dies I acquired recently - I couldn't wait to use them!  I got the Memory Box 'Stitched Square Layers' and 'Surely Stitched Square' dies plus the MFT Die-namics 'Flower Medley' die.  I love the subtle stitching detail on the square dies!  The flowers of the Flower Medley die are connected but can be separated, I'm hoping to keep them connected as I love being able to cut out a number of flowers without having to fiddle with individual dies!

The card base measures 5 3/4" square and I used a colour combo of Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral, Old Olive and white.  I glued a Lorelai Leaf die cut to the white square after I'd embossed the square with the Cuttlebug 'Birds & Swirls' folder.  I shaped the flowers and adhered them - popping up the large flower.  I glued the Calypso Coral 'Surely Stitched Square' die cut shapes on the right hand side and added a die cut and shaped flower.  The sentiment was stamped, die cut and popped up.  I placed pearls in the centres of the flowers and added punched Calypso Coral 1/8" circles to the sentiment label.

Here's a closer look at the stitch detail on the die cuts - love it!

Here's the inside and envelope.

As I'd cut each 5 3/4" square card base from 1 A4 sheet of Crisp Cantaloupe CS I had strips left over.  I also had extra flowers plus the negative shape left over from cutting the Old Olive Lorelai Leaf piece.  It seemed a shame not to use them so the ladies got to make a bonus scrapling card.  All that was needed was a stamped sentiment and a piece of contrasting CS to go behind the negative die cut leaf panel.  I used a piece of Pistachio Pudding CS which I embossed with a lattice embossing folder before gluing it behind the Old Olive piece.  This scrapling card fits inside a C6 envelope.

My good friend Lesley went further with her scrapling card by adding some black accents to her card which looked fabulous!   So this morning I added some black to my own scrapling card - thank you Lesley for the inspiration, mwah!  I drew the black lines around the Old Olive panel with a black marker and added a black Lorelai Leaf Outline die cut shape.  I replaced the pearl in the centre of the flower with a black gem and added black punched circles to the Coral flower petals - an idea shamelessly stolen from Lesley's card!  I then added two more flowers with black gem centres.

Naturally, I had to decorate the inside and envelope!

Decorated Wooden Money Box

A couple of months ago I bought a plain wooden money box which I wanted to decorate and keep in my craft room.  It's almost 4" wide and it has a depth and height of 2 3/4".  First I painted the box with Cosmic Shimmer 'Jade Mint' matt chalk paint and then I glued on pieces of Basic Grey Spice Market 'Marjoram' patterned paper.  I added thin strips of SU! Midnight Muse CS and added punched out patterned paper circles to the top of the box.  To finish off I gave the money box a couple of coats of gloss varnish - I wanted a durable finish!

Here's another view showing the circles on the top.

This is now in my craft room collecting £1 and £2 coins which I pop in occasionally.  I look forward to seeing how much I have when the box is filled - and that shouldn't take too long.  I'm hoping I will have saved enough for a significant crafty purchase.  If I want a major crafty item that's on the pricey side I like to have saved up for it - or towards it at least!
