What struck me about the card was the CAS design, black and white combo and the layout. Nancy has such an interesting, eclectic style but her designs are very clean. I found this challenge really good fun because I had to go outside of my usual style - every now and again that is a really refreshing thing to do!
Naturally, as there was a dress form on Nancy's card I reached for the dress form die in my SU! Dress Up Framelits set! I cut it out in black and pondered what to do with it for a while as I didn't want to leave it naked. I decided to stamp on a portion of the shape only and apply gilding flakes. I stamped the harlequin background and applied Frosted Leaves gilding flakes. The harlequin stamp has a straight edge and I wanted to break up the straight line so I added buttons and an SU! Designer Builder Brad to the dress form.
When it came to a sentiment for the card I knew I wanted something a bit out of the ordinary. Very often there are sentiments in sets that I buy that I know I will get very little, if any, use out of. I keep them but they're buried deep in the stash and practically have to be excavated! So while rummaging I came across the Dare to be Fabulous sentiment from the SU! Fabulous Flowers set which seemed a good fit for the card. The only problem was that I really loved the black sentiment circle on Nancy's original card and I'd intended to use that element on my CASEd version. My sentiment was too large for that though. I could have typed and printed it out from the computer but I love the fonts used on the stamp so I decided to stick with it. I managed to incorporate a small black circle by stamping the sentiment in VersaMark ink onto black CS and heat embossing with white powder. I punched out a circle, stamped the sentiment on the white panel in black ink and popped my black punched circle up over the top - very carefully lining up to get the placement right! I popped the dress form up but glued the bottom flat to the white panel. I then sprinkled on some rhinestone jewels.
I carried the harlequin stamp over to the inside and the envelope and used a flower from the Fabulous Flowers set. I was chuffed to find that the font on the word 'Birthday' matches the word 'Fabulous' from the sentiment I'd used on the card front - a very happy discovery!
I hope you'll join in with our CASE challenge at Inkspirational this week, I look forward to seeing your creations!
