Floral One Layer Silver Edged Notecard

This is a RAK (Random Act of Kindness) card I've made.  As it will be sent abroad I've made it a one layer card to cut down on postage costs.  The SU! silver edged notecards and matching envelopes are ideal!  This is a SIP card - a SIP card only uses stamps, ink and paper.

The SU! 'Too Kind' stamp set is a lovely floral set but I do think SU! could have included some leaves in the set!  I have another retired SU! floral set called 'Garden in Bloom' and I dug out some leaves from that set and tried pairing them with the 'Too Kind' flowers.  As both sets have that watercolour look it worked out pretty well I think!  I used Shaded Spruce ink for the stems and leaves, Grapefruit Grove for the background flowers, Calypso Coral for the detail flowers, Soft Suede ink for the sentiment and Crumb Cake ink for the speckles.

 

Here's the inside and envelope.  The 'sending good thoughts your way' is a lovely sentiment!

Goldfish Bowl Just Keep Swimming Set Of Cards

The 'Just keep swimming!' sentiment is perfect to use during the Coronavirus lockdown I feel!  I'm missing my card group ladies as we can't get together for our monthly meetings and I thought it would be nice to stay in touch and send each of them some happy mail!

I ummed and aahed about getting the SU! 'Make a Splash' set but I haven't got anything else like it, it looked like good fun and so I bought it - and I'm so glad I did!  The images are in such a lovely style and the set is so easy to stamp with.

Here's my set of cards all ready to be written out.

 

Here's just one card.  My colour combo is Calypso Coral, Basic Black, Granny Apple Green and Whisper White.  I also used Gray Granite ink for the fish bowl, Crumb Cake ink for the gravel and Pool Party ink for the water line and the bubbles.  I added shimmer to the fishy with a clear Wink of Stella pen.  I taped the loop of ribbon to the back of the black CS rectangle and tucked the sentiment label behind.  I fussy cut the fish bowl and popped that up.  I finished the front with three gold sequins attached with mini glue dots.

I had such a lot of fun in my craft room making these cards and I really hope the ladies smiled when they opened them!

Postage Panel Trio Birthday Card

Getting the new annual Stampin' Up! catalogue is always exciting and the first few times I go through it I'm all about checking out the products.  A couple of days ago I was looking at the catalogue again and I realised card designs were popping out at me - there are some great card samples in this catalogue!

A card on page 5 of the catalogue which showcases a rectangular postage stamp punch really stood out for me.  There are three punched shapes popped up over a vellum layer and there's a yellow sentiment strip torn at the ends.  I know I will buy the punch but until I do I remembered I had a die that cuts out various sizes of postage stamp shapes so I dug that out and was able to replicate the card.  I can make cards on the fly but sometimes I find I waste a lot of time figuring out placement etc and I end up frustrated and crabby.  For me, having a layout and design to work from is SO helpful and I'm able to create a card so much quicker and I'm happier with that!

I used the Positive Thoughts stamp set which I think is one of the best sets ever - gorgeous images!  My fresh colour combo is Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Mango Melody, Whisper White and a hint of Early Espresso for stamping the sentiments. I popped up the postage stamp rectangles, added three Glitter Enamel Dots and my final touch for the card front was a spritz of Champagne Mist shimmer spray.

 

The shimmer mist is so hard to capture in a photo but I did try!  The card really sparkles when light catches it.

Bee Celebrate Every Moment Birthday Card

Dena Rekow has set us members of her May Facebook class a challenge - to make a card using half a sheet of CS as a card base and four strips of patterned paper - two measuring 1/2" x 4 1/2" and two measuring 1/2" x 3 1/2".  Dena has used this as one of her May class layouts and I'm so looking forward to seeing her design as I found this really challenging!  It took quite a while for me to settle on a layout I was happy with!

I chose to use some Golden Honey DSP, cut the strips, decided on a landscape oriented design and made an A6 sized Basic Black card base.  I glued my patterned paper strips and then cut out the honeycomb piece, the bee and the sentiment rectangle.  I took a few honeycomb pieces out of the die cut shape, glued that in place and added the sentiment label.  I used Vegas Gold Shimmer Paint to add colour to the bee stripes, shaped the wings a bit and glued the bee in place.  I'd butted up the patterned paper strips and I decided they would have looked better with a gap between them.  I cut narrow black CS strips and glued those in place - a definite improvement!

 

I glued three hexagons taken from the honeycomb die cut around the sentiment and I used my envelope punch board to make a patterned paper envelope.  I die cut a 'Stitched So Sweetly' rectangle as an address label and added a stamped bee.  Again, I coloured the bee stripes with Vegas Gold Shimmer Paint.

Wobble Spring Rudolph Merriest Christmas Wishes Card

Because gatherings are not happening at the moment our Slimming World group is meeting virtually with a weekly Zoom video call.  During one meeting we were talking about keeping ourselves occupied and combating boredom during lockdown.  I said that wasn't an issue for me because of my card making hobby and I went on to say that I might get a few Christmas cards made.  One lady said "ooh make me one, I love reindeer" - so here is Lisa's reindeer Christmas card!

I embossed a square of white CS with the Liane Creatief 'Snowflakes Background' embossing folder, added some Granny Apple Green ribbon and glued the panel to the front of a 5 3/4" square Real Red card base.  I stamped Rudolph and the background scene images using Memento Rich Cocoa ink and I added colour with SU! Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.  I glued the image panel to a mat layer of Granny Apple Green CS, popped that up, fussy cut Rudolph, mounted him on a wobble action spring and attached him to the front of the image panel.  I die cut a sentiment label and added two red Glitter Enamel Dots.

 

Here's the inside of the card.  I thought the teeny tiny heart die cuts were ideal to use with the 'smiles & love' sentiment!  The tiny heart die comes with the SU! 'Well Written' die set - I was so careful while using it as it could so easily get lost!

 

I stamped snowflakes all over the envelope flap.

 

A few snowflakes were stamped on the front of the envelope too and I also added a die cut name label with more Glitter Enamel Dots.

 

Well, that's one Christmas card added to the box, I'm hoping to add lots more but let's see how that goes!

Rosy Happiness Card & Gift Tag Combo

The lovely SU! 'Abstract Impressions' stamp set is such an easy set to use and I used it here to make a card and gift tag.  I used a layout that I'd used before on this floral card - having a sketch layout as a starting point really helps me create a card!  Here's the card and gift together.

 

Here's the card.  I stamped the solid roses in stamped off once Coastal Cabana ink, the detail roses in full strength Bermuda Bay ink, the solid leaves in stamped off once Granny Apple Green ink and the detail leaves in full strength Granny Apple Green ink.  After stamping the sentiment I taped the loop of ribbon behind the stamped panel and popped the panel up.  I couldn't resist adding a sweet little die cut butterfly (from the SU! 'Well Written' die set) again!  I used a clear Wink of Stella pen to add shimmer to the roses and the butterfly wings and sprinkled on a few rhinestone jewels.

 

Here's the inside of the card and the envelope flap.  This will not get to the person in time for their birthday so I haven't used specific birthday sentiments.  The 'With a great big wish for happiness' and 'You deserve the best life has to offer' stamps I've used are wonderful sentiments in my view!

 

I used a couple of 'Stitched So Sweetly' dies to make a name label for the front of the envelope.

Cheery Floral Happy Birthday Card

One of my card group ladies, the lovely Sue, celebrated her birthday this week and this is the card I made for her.  I've based my card on one that Dena Rekow designed last year with the SU! 'Beautiful Friendship' stamp set (the YouTube video is HERE).

Now I have to admit I didn't get great stamping results following the way Dena and Sara stamped in the video (they die cut a separate label and adhered it over the top of the white panel with low tack tape before stamping the images).  I tried that a couple of times and I got big gaps between the label and the CS layer which I wasn't happy about.  So I die cut the label out of the white layer, nestled the label back in place, did the stamping (hooray, no gaps!) and then popped the label up.  You can just see a hint of the black CS layer where the label is popped up.  A different approach but the design is more or less the same.

After I'd wrapped the ribbon around the panel I glued it to the front of the Coastal Cabana A6 sized card base.  I recently ordered the the 'Well Written' set of word dies and as I placed the dies onto a magnetic sheet to go inside a clear wallet I noticed the small pretty butterfly die included in the set. The addition of a pretty butterfly to a floral card is always a good thing and I decided to do that here!  The die cuts an outline butterfly but I've found that if you die cut two layers of CS together the little pieces remain intact in the shape so I then cut a black outline butterfly and glued that over the top of the Coastal Cabana shape with the pieces still inside - fab eh?!  I added three small rhinestone jewels to the butterfly to finish the front.

 

Here's the inside of the card and the envelope.  It was so enjoyable stamping all that prettiness - although I did have a lot of stamps to clean and a lot of blocks to put away!

Colour Block Happy News One Layer Card

I watched Dena Rekow's May 11th Live video on replay a few days ago and she shared a fun tape ink transfer technique that I just had to try.  Dena makes the tape technique card at around the 1 hour 1 minute mark on the video if you want to fast forward to that part.  Basically, you use painter's tape to transfer ink from an inkpad to a piece of CS - easy, fun - and yes, a bit messy!

Recently I posted a couple of RAK cards to the U.S.A. and it cost more than I was expecting.  As this card was going as a RAK to America I decided to make a one layer card - it really did reduce the postage cost!  I started off with an SU! Whisper White notecard and I placed post it notes around the edges of the card to act as a mask.  I used some low tack tape which was 1" wide and I applied the stripes of colour by rubbing the tape onto an inkpad and then placing the inked tape on my card and rubbing the tape to transfer the colour inside the masked rectangle area.  I used Melon Mambo, Grapefruit Grove, Mango Melody, Granny Apple Green and Bermuda Bay inks to create my stripes.

Once I'd finished the stripes I used a black pen to add a border around the rectangle and I stamped the sentiment.  I then placed post it notes all around the edges of the card again and I stamped the gorgeous flourish stamp from the 'Flourishing Phrases' stamp set twice.  You can't tell from the photo but I embellished by spritzing the whole card front with Champagne Mist shimmer spray so the card is super sparkly when it catches the light.

 

Just simple black ink stamping to decorate the inside of the card and the envelope. 

 

Despite my incredibly inky fingers as a result of making this card I was quite chuffed at how it turned out!  This card is going to a lady that has just become a grandmother for the first time.  Hope she likes it as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Poppies Thank You Card

This is a card design and layout I got from one of Dena Rekow's April Facebook Live classes.  It's a simple design but it's a great layout and has a bold, graphic look I think.  I had a great time making it anyway!

The SU! 'Abstract Impressions' set has only recently been added to my stash as I wasn't sure I liked it enough from just seeing it in the catalogue and seeing cards made with it.  It's definitely one of those sets that you need to stamp with - now I've inked the stamps up I'm totally sold and wish I'd have got the set earlier!  I stamped the greenery first using two stamps and Granny Apple Green ink - full strength and stamped off once.  Then I stamped the flower cluster image a few times using full strength and stamped off once Poppy Parade ink.  I then cut my Whisper White piece into three panels, popped them up on the card base and stamped, heat embossed and die cut the sentiment rectangle.  I used a black Glaze pen to add glossy black dots to the flower centres to make them into poppies.  I added three rhinestone jewels to complete the card front.

Tulips Thank You Card

Some friends sent me some gorgeous, bright and cheery flowers, it was such a lovely surprise!  I wanted to send a thank you card to let them know their kindness really touched my heart.  I based my card on a sample shown on page 67 of the SU! Jan - June 2020 mini catalogue.  I noticed the card a while back because of the striking colours and attractive layout.

I embossed a panel of Pool Party CS with the SU! 'Subtle' embossing folder and glued that to the front of an A6 sized Pool Party card base.  I die cut the Pool Party gingham  stitched rectangle and punched the Blackberry Bliss flagged banner and glued those in place.  I've had the 'Timeless Tulips' stamp set for a while but hadn't got round to inking it up.  I used Mossy Meadow ink for the stems and leaves and I stamped the tulips in Blackberry Bliss, Flirty Flamingo and Mango Melody inks.  I was convinced I'd ordered the matching 'Tulip Builder' punch but after searching my craft room to no avail I had to fussy cut my tulips and leaves!  I popped up the three tulips and the sentiment and added three rhinestone jewels to finish the card front.

 

Here's the inside of the card and the envelope.  I stamped the large tulip first on the white panel for inside the card, stamped it again on a post it note, cut out the post it note tulip which I used as a mask and I then stamped the two smaller tulips.  I stamped the sentiment in Mossy Meadow ink onto a scrap of Pool Party CS, die cut the label, glued it in place and added two rhinestone jewels to the label.  I stamped the stem on the envelope flap, stamped the tulip and two leaves on a piece of Whisper White CS, fussy cut them and glued them in place.

Two Mint & Suede Daisy Cards

I enjoyed a lovely play in my craft room yesterday afternoon.  After making the first daisy card I just carried on and made a second while all the supplies were out on my desk!  Mint Macaron and Soft Suede look great together I think and my starting point was the pretty patterned paper I used.

Here are both of the cards together.

 

Here is the A6 sized card.  I stamped the sentiment first then glued the patterned paper to the Soft Suede CS mat layer.  I then applied the faux suede technique to a strip of Soft Suede CS and glued it in place. To get the faux suede look run a bone folder all over the CS several times and in all directions until the fibres are loosened and you can peel the CS apart in two layers.   It's a 'Dena trick' I've picked up since taking part in Dena Rekow's Facebook Live classes.  

This card features another 'Dena trick' which is spritzing using an SU! Stampin' Write marker.  You flick the brush end of the marker hard against the inside of the cap and the end result is a fine spritz pattern.  Before the spritzing I stamped and punched the daisy and once I'd assembled the daisy I realised it would look better and less busy to separate the daisy from the patterned paper background.  I didn't really want a solid mat layer so I used vellum CS which gives a softer option - I glued two die cut vellum circles together and glued the daisy in the centre.

 

Here's a closer look at the faux suede strip - it gives just a subtle bit of texture.

I had the 4" square piece of patterned paper sitting on my desk and I decided it would look better on a 5 1/4" square card rather than an A6 sized card.  I adhered the panel centrally to the card after gluing the paper to a mat layer of Soft Suede CS. I stamped the two daisies in VersaMark on watercolour paper, heat embossed with white embossing powder and punched them out.  I used an Aquapainter and inks to add some colour - Soft Suede for the centre and Mint Macaron ink for the petal edges.  I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment, created a flagged banner and glued it in place.  I glued the daisy and then tucked the die cut textured leaves underneath the daisy to complete the card front.

Nothing is popped up on the two cards, I wanted the elements to be flat for ease of posting.  These cards will be sent as RAKs (Random Acts of Kindness) to ladies in the U.S.A. The square card is going to a fellow customer service retail worker - I know myself how hard that role can be at the moment and how nice it will be to receive some encouragement!

Lighthouse Hope Card

Here is a card I made for a friend who has gone through a tough time.  I wanted to send her a card with an encouraging and positive message and the sentiments I've used from the SU! 'High Tide' and 'Positive Thoughts' sets seemed ideal.

I stamped my scene on a large piece of Whisper White CS and then trimmed the panel to size when I'd finished.  The panel ended up being a peculiar size and didn't look right on a standard A6 sized card base so I made a custom sized card (4 1/8" x 5 3/8").  I used an Inkylicious 'Mountain Valley, Sun/Moon' stencil and mask set to create the sun - applying So Saffron, Mango Melody and Calypso Coral inks with oval make up brushes.  I used another brush to apply Pool Party ink as the sky.  After stamping the sea I used a clear Wink of Stella pen over it to add some shimmer.  I matted the stamped panel on a layer of Night of Navy CS and glued that to the card front.

I stamped a mini scene on the inside and added a sentiment.  As I'd ended up with a non standard sized card I decided to make an envelope from Pool Party CS.  I decorated the flap with a stamped scene circle element.

A couple of dies from the SU! 'Stitched So Sweetly' die set gave me a name label for the front of the envelope.

Mood when done - highly satisfied with how the card turned out!

Red Wine Sip Sip Hooray Card

It was our dear friend Mike's birthday this week and as he is very partial to a glass of red wine I turned to the SU! 'Sip Sip Hooray' stamp set and 'Sip & Celebrate' die set to create his card.  Of course, I had to use Merry Merlot CS and ink!

I stamped the glass and 'Sip Sip' in Gray Granite ink and I popped up the glass on the Merry Merlot Stitched Rectangle shape.  I added three silver nailhead embellishments to finish the front.

  

Here's the inside and the envelope.  The 'Happy Hour' sentiment fit perfectly in the Oval Stitched Shape die and I loved how that layered with a label from the 'Stitched So Sweetly' die set.

 

I received a text from Mike saying "thanks for the great card.......you've still got it!" which really warmed my heart and made me smile!

Butterflies Rainbow Card

Here is a card I made for a challenge set by Dena Rekow in her April 2020 Facebook class.  Dena asked us to make a card using a rainbow colour scheme.  That's guaranteed to result in a happy card - and we all need some happy during these Coronavirus lockdown times!

'Label Me Bold' stamp set and stamped that six times in a row using different colour inks - Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, Granny Apple Green, Pacific Point and Gorgeous Grape.  It's very important to clean the stamp between inkings!  I then used a 'Stitched Rectangle' die to cut out the white panel, I added some black baker's twine tied in a bow and glued the white panel to a mat layer of black CS.  I stamped the butterfly in black ink on the six colours of CS, punched them out, shaped the wings and glued the butterflies in place.  After stamping the sentiment I added a Dena signature touch - I spritzed the card using a black marker.  To finish the front I embellished each butterfly with a small faceted gem - they're iridescent which carries on the rainbow theme nicely!

I really enjoyed spending time in my craft room creating this card.  The other ladies that took part in the challenge shared some lovely cards with the class group and it made me so happy to see such beautiful rainbow cards!

Rosy Anniversary Card

It seems people are having a hard time getting greetings cards during the Coronavirus lockdown.  A colleague at work asked me to make a 3rd wedding anniversary card for him to give to his wife and I was very happy to fulfil the request!

I used my MFT 'Blueprints 14' die set and one of the suggested sketch layouts - the bottom left one.  Having a layout to use really makes a card come together quickly and easily. 

Pink and green is a much favoured colour combo of mine and I've used SU! Lovely Lipstick, Blushing Bride and Granny Apple Green colours.  The pretty rose stamps are from the Clearly Besotted 'English Rose' multi step stamping set.  For the flowers I used Blushing Bride ink for the solid layer, stamped off once Lovely Lipstick ink for the next layer and full strength Lovely Lipstick ink for the final detailed layer. For the leaves I used Soft Seafoam ink for the solid layer, stamped off once Granny Apple Green ink for the next layer and full strength Granny Apple Green ink for the final detailed layer.

I used a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to accurately position the stamped sentiment, fussy cut the leaves and roses and popped the roses up.  I added Granny Apple Green ribbon to the Lovely Lipstick mat layer before adhering that to the Blushing Bride layer which I adhered to a 5 1/2" square white card base.  To complete the front I added three Glitter Enamel Dots.

 

Here's the inside of the card and the envelope.  The three Blushing Bride hearts were cut out using the retired SU! 'Owl Builder' punch.
