This afternoon we had our May card group meeting. Last month we made two types of card in a box which the ladies found a bit fiddly and time consuming. There were requests for "something easy next month please!" so this time it's 3 cards with stamping, die cutting and punching - nothing the ladies haven't done before so not too challenging!
First up is a birdbath card - very good as a male card I think. I die cut the birdbath, birds and the clouds and punched two layers of grass. The Soft Sky CS panel and the clouds were edged with Marina Mist ink before being glued to the A6 Early Espresso card base. I stamped a speckle stamp over the Crumb Cake birdbath die cut shape and inked the edges with Soft Suede ink. I glued the bottom of the birdbath flat between the two layers of grass and added 3D foam pads to the upper parts of the shape to pop it up. The bird patiently sitting on the rim waiting his turn is also popped up. To complete the card front I added the stamped and punched sentiment circle element.
Here's the inside and the envelope. I stamped the bird on the envelope flap but the bird perched on the sentiment inside is a die cut shape.
Card two is a 5 1/4" square flower 'thinking of you' card made with a colour combo of Pink Pirouette, Rich Razzleberry and Very Vanilla. I've used flower stamps from the SU! Mixed Bunch and Petite Petals sets. The stamped Vanilla flower is offset over a Razzleberry punched flower, the small stamped Pink Pirouette flower is popped up over a 1" circle and a square gem has been placed in the centre. The whole flower element is popped up over a die cut swirl shape that I snipped in half before gluing the two pieces to the Vanilla panel. The fancy border is also a die cut shape.
Here's the inside and the envelope flap with the very pretty Mixed Bunch flower. I love the softer shade of the stamped off Razzleberry ink along with the full strength colour!
Card three for this month's card group meeting was especially requested by Jan. I gave THIS CARD to Jan back in 2011 and she recently asked if we could make it at card group as she loved it so much. Jan, like me, isn't fond of top fold cards that have a tendency to slip down when they're on display so she asked if we could place a W piece inside to make a tent card. Well, I was very happy to oblige!
I deliberately made the previous card a 5 1/4" square Pink Pirouette card so that I'd have 3" CS scrapling strips left over to make this card design. I'm amazed how Pink Pirouette looks so different paired with Rich Razzleberry, it looks more lilacy in the above card where on this card it's definitely a pale pink!
I stamped the Bella Toile background stamp onto the card front with Pink Pirouette ink. The stamp isn't quite long enough to cover the whole card front so I chopped a tad off the bottom. I stamped and fussy cut the leafy medallion and popped that up over So Saffron and Melon Mambo circles that extend beyond the side of the scrapling card so that it will fit inside a C6 envelope. I punched, snipped and shaped flowers to go in the centre of the medallion and I stamped the sentiment. I fixed the So Saffron and Melon Mambo butterfly shapes together with a rhinestone brad and attached the butterfly to the strip of Old Olive ribbon with a glue dot. A smaller butterfly went on the punched photo corner. I added a rhinestone to the flower centre and to the small butterfly.
Here's the back of the card and the envelope flap. You can see the W shaped piece of CS I glued inside to ensure that the card will stand up properly. To make a W piece for a tent card I always cut CS the width of the card (in this case 3" wide) x 3 1/2" and score on the 3 1/2" side at 1/2", 1 3/4" and 3". A valley fold, mountain fold and another valley fold forms the W shape.
