Two Heart Themed Gift Boxes

Yesterday Lesley and Wendy came over to make a set of Double Wonder Christmas cards like this set I'd made previously.  I like to give them both a little treat and I place the packaged gifts on the table so they see them as soon as they arrive.  I'd forgotten I had these SU! 'Love You Always' treat boxes in my stash and they were ideal!  They are great boxes, they're like matchboxes so there is a box and a sleeve that slides over the box.  They're a good size and there's no gluing needed to put them together so that's brilliant!  Here are both boxes together.

I placed the gift at the bottom of the box and covered it with some scrunched up tissue paper.  To decorate the sleeves I chose some bright, happy hearts paper from the SU! 'Pattern Party' DSP pack and made wraps  to go around the boxes.  I cut pieces of Granny Apple Green CS and wrapped those around the sleeves, folding around the boxes as I went rather than scoring before applying the CS to the boxes.  I taped the ends of the Granny Apple Green CS together and then cut narrower pieces of patterned paper and wrapped those around the boxes in the same way, taping the ends together.  The decorative sleeves can be slid off so Lesley and Wendy can re-use their boxes and redecorate them if they wish.

I stamped the 'love you, friend' sentiment (from the SU! 'Shaded Summer' set) in VersaMark on Bermuda Bay CS, heat embossed with white embossing powder and die cut two labels (using a die from the SU! 'Seasonal Labels' die set.)  I die cut two Real Red stitched hearts using a die from the long retired 'Trim Your Stocking' die set.  I cut strips of Granny Apple Green Textured Weave ribbon, made zig zags and attached them to the boxes with double sided tape.  I popped up the labels and the hearts and added rhinestone jewels to finish.

Here's another view.  The boxes really are a good size!  Both ladies ordered the SU! 'Christmas Season' bundle and they used their stamps and dies to create their cards.  I thought the 'Gold Holly Leaves' embellishments that are part of the 'Painted Christmas' suite would be a perfect gift for them so that's what was inside the boxes!

Lesley and Wendy loved their gifts and we had such a happy day together crafting, chatting and laughing!  We're getting together again on Saturday 2nd October - World Card Making Day!

Butterfly Gable Box - Online Meeting Project

I'd made up kits for three cards for Lesley and Wendy to make during our online meeting but I also gave them supplies for a gable box. I die cut the scallop envelopes and cut the CS strips but left it to the ladies to decide how they wanted to decorate and embellish their boxes.  

This is the box I made up in advance of the meeting.  I stamped my pieces of Pool Party CS with the SU! 'Butterfly Brilliance' stamp using Coastal Cabana ink and then assembled the box.  I stamped the large butterfly with VersaMark ink on Bermuda Bay CS and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.  I die cut the butterfly and adhered it to a die cut stitched circle.  

Here's a view from the side.  The scalloped envelope gives such pretty detailing to the box!  I glued the butterfly on the body only and then placed Dimensionals under the wings but left the backing paper on so that the wings will stay popped up.

The thing that took the longest on this box was deciding on what to use for a closure.  Man, I faffed about with different bows and ribbons and I just wasn't happy with anything I tried!  In the end I opted to tie a bow from Bermuda Bay mini chevron ribbon and I attached that to an aqua binder clip with a glue dot.  I embellished the centre of the bow with a gold faceted gem.

Floral Card & Matching Gable Box

I keep fancy fold instructions, examples and templates in a box and over the years I've been topping the box up and it's got rather full.  I decided to go through the whole box, right to the bottom and have a clear out.  Goodness me, I found some stuff lurking at the bottom that's been there for years!  I came across instructions to make a gable box using the old, long retired SU! Scallop Envelope die - which I still have.  They were rather sketchy instructions, not entirely complete.  I came across the box back in 2012 through Pauline's blog post HERE.  The link is still active so I revisited Pauline's post and made an example to go in my templates box and I just had to make an actual box too!  After finishing the box I felt I needed to make a matching card. 

Here's the card, envelope and box together.

Here's the gable box.  To make it you join together two die cut scallop envelopes and two strips of CS,  punch holes for handles and adhere together.  It's easy and makes a really attractive gift box I think.  I stamped the beautiful floral image repeatedly over my pieces using Highland Heather ink, rounded the top corners of the handle strips and punched circles for the handle. I used stamped off once Highland Heather ink to stamp a background for the sentiment label and stamped the sentiment in Gorgeous Grape ink.  I punched three Gorgeous Grape flowers from the 'Strawberry' builder punch, snipped between the petals and shaped them for dimension, glued them in place and added a purple Pastel Pearl to the centre of each flower.  I used dies from the SU! 'Stitched So Sweetly' die set to make the tag.  I popped up the Purple Posy label onto the Gorgeous Grape label and tied it to the box with SU! purple tricolor ribbon.  I popped a cellophane bag containing Cadbury Mini Eggs inside the box.

After finishing the box I decided to give it to a friend who is going through an anxious time because of health concerns.  I wanted to accompany the box with a card with a positive message and the one I used from the 'Positive Thoughts' set is perfect.  I tied in all the elements I'd used on the box to make the card.

Here's the envelope.  I've used die cut shapes from the 'Messages' die to create the name label.  I popped up the Purple Posy shape.

A couple of days after I'd made these the SU! retiring list came out and I was shocked to see that 'Fancy Phrases' is on the list, that's the bad news!  The good news is that the card and box were very well received!  SU! may be retiring the set but it will be kept in my stash, that's for sure!

Green & Gold Leaves Birthday Card & Gift Box

I'm really taken with the sleeve handle boxes and I just had to make one featuring gorgeous leafy paper from the SU! 'Forever Greenery' DSP pack.  Once I'd made the bag I decided to go all out and make a matching card!  Here's the card, envelope and box all together.

The card measures 5 3/4" square and I used Shaded Spruce CS.  I die cut a strip of Pear Pizzazz CS using a stitched die from the 'Suit & Tie' die set and I glued that to the card base before adding the strip of ferns paper.  The gold foil elements are from the 'Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper' pack.  I stamped the sentiment in Shaded Spruce ink onto Pear Pizzazz CS, cut it out with a stitched oval die and popped the shape up.  I finished off by adding some Gilded Gems.

Finally, here's the sleeve handle box.  Circle or oval punches work well to make the handles but I dug out my old, retired SU! 'Word Window' punch to make the handle for this box.

Two Sleeve Handle Boxes

Julie Davison has provided quite a bit of inspiration for me lately and I loved these sweet little boxes she shared on this video.  Julie's blog post with a template can be found HERE. They're so easy to make and a bit different I think!  For the box, cut CS 5 1/2" x 7" and on the short side score at 1" and 4 1/2". Turn and score at 3" and 4".  To make the sleeve, cut patterned paper 2 1/2" x 12" and score at 5 1/2" and 6".  Use a punch to cut out a handle - a circle or oval punch is ideal.

I didn't plan on including one of these boxes in the online crafty session so I didn't make up kits but as I knew my friends would have CS and patterned paper I figured we could make one of them on the day if we had time.  

This is the box I made up in advance.  I used the SU! 'Paper Blooms' DSP with Night of Navy CS and dies from the 'Brilliant Wings' die set to make a butterfly shaped tag.

The patterned paper sleeve just slides over the box - an ingenious idea!  Here are the two separate pieces.

Here's a closer look at the butterfly tag.  I layered a Night of Navy fancy butterfly over a Seaside Spray solid butterfly, punched a hole and tied the tag to the handle with some Night of Navy grosgrain ribbon and some silver cord.  That grosgrain ribbon has been in my stash for many years!

On the day we had time to make a box so all three of us rummaged in our stashes and chose CS and patterned papers to make our boxes.  This time I used SU! Granny Apple Green CS with 'Berry Delightful' DSP to make the box.  I used Poppy Parade and Basic White CS with two dies from the 'Stitched So Sweetly' die set to make a tag.  I punched out a strawberry from a piece of the patterned paper and stamped and punched a top for my strawberry.  I punched a hole and tied the tag on with white baker's twine.  I stamped the sentiment in Shaded Spruce ink, popped up the strawberry, popped up the white die cut shape and added green Glitter Enamel Dots.

As a little gift from me I sent my two friends a couple of choccy treats packaged in a patterned paper wrap with ribbon and a tag.

As I'd never crafted online in this way before I didn't know what to expect and how successful - or not -it would be.  I'm delighted to say it went really well!  What a lovely afternoon we had, of course it wasn't the same as getting together in person but we have to adapt in these times of Covid 19.  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and plan to do it again soon!

Birdie Card & Matching Gift Bag

Two friends came over to craft with me a few weeks ago and I designed a card and a gift bag for them to make using the beautiful SU! 'Bird Ballad' suite of products.  We had such a lovely time together, I enjoyed it so much!  Here's the Card, envelope and gift bag together.

 

Here's the card - it's a fancy fold design - an aperture is cut out from the card front.  I stamped the image in Memento Rich Cocoa ink and coloured using SU! Stampin' Blends.

 

Here's a view of the card within a card fancy fold.  Inside the Crumb Cake card there's a smaller Pool Party card. The bird panel is popped up with Dimensionals.  I love that the sentiment is hidden until you open the card!

Here's the inside of the card and the envelope.  The birdie on the envelope flap was cut out with a circle punch from a piece of 'Bird Ballad' DSP.

 

I gave each friend a mini card (made using the SU! 'Lots of Happy' card kit) and a small gift - I placed the card and gift inside a kraft pillow box which I decorated with an element from the 'Lots of Happy' kit, some Granny Apple Green woven ribbon and a circle tag.   A sweet little token of friendship and appreciation!

July 2018 Card Group Projects

Last Thursday we got together for our July card group meeting - phew, it was a hot, sticky day!  During the June meeting I asked for suggestions and one lady asked for a gift box and another lady asked for a black and white card.

When I started prepping the projects I started with the gift box suggestion and decided to decorate an SU! white mini pizza box.  I've had a big clear out of my crafty stuff and I've sold lots on ebay but there were some items that I wasn't ready to part with.  I've placed those 'undecided' items in a box and I'm using them so I can make a decision to keep or sell.  One of the items in the box was the SU! 'Lattice' Bigz die and I looked back on the blog to see how I'd used it in the past and I came across this card I made back in 2013 so I CASEd that design for the gift box and then I thought I may as well make a matching card!  Here's the envelope, card and gift box all together.

Here's the gift box.  I cut a square of Berry Burst CS, glued that to the front of the box, I cut two small squares of Lemon Lime Twist CS and glued them on top of the Berry Burst square and then I glued the Blackberry Bliss die cut 'Lattice' shape over the top.  I popped up the stamped and punched butterflies and tied a stamped and die cut tag to some white organza ribbon with some silver cord.  I tied the ribbon in a bow around the box.

Here's the A6 sized card - made exactly the same way as the panel on the box - but with the addition of a patterned paper strip with a stamped sentiment instead of a tag.

Here's the inside and the envelope.  I really like the Berry Burst, Blackberry Bliss, Lemon Lime Twist and Powder Pink colour combo! 

I turned to my 'undecided' box again for the black and white card and I chose to use the SU! 'Bella Toile' and 'Gossamer Lace' stamps from the box.  Both are beautiful stamps and I love them - I've just neglected them!  I decided to make a card and decorate a matching gift bag.  Here's the envelope, card and gift bag all together.

To get panels for the card front, inside and the front of the bag, I stamped the 'Bella Toile' stamp twice onto pieces of Whisper White CS and cut the pieces to size.  I stamped the 'Gossamer Lace' image twice and fussy cut them out.  I die cut two Poppystamps 'Lorelai Leaf' shapes and snipped the shapes so I had two separate leafy sprigs to tuck under the black die cut circles.  I die cut two flowers and centres, shaped them and glued the flower on top of a black CS circle.  I stamped the sentiment and popped a clear gem in the centre of the flower.

Here's the inside of the card and the front of the envelope.  The inside of the card has a stamped panel mounted onto a strip of Basic Black CS.  For the envelope front I stamped the 'Bella Toile' stamp directly onto the envelope and drew a line with a black Sharpie marker.

Here's a side view.  The bag is gusseted and a good size to hold a few treats.

I usually make three cards for the ladies to make and the ladies split into three groups to make the cards.  This month there were two groups and I wasn't sure how that was going to pan out but it worked really well so two cards with matching gift packaging could well happen at card group again in the future! 

So, what of the 'Lattice' die, 'Bella Toile' stamp and 'Gossamer Lace' stamp from my 'undecided' box?  I can't let them go, I'm keeping them in my stash!

August 2017 Card Group Projects

Finally, another blog post from me!  July was a hectic month plus I went on holiday so crafting was temporarily suspended.  I'm not working today and I was determined to spend some time creating and to also post on my blog.  My craft room was a complete and utter mess, I spent a few hours yesterday afternoon and evening tidying and cleaning so that I could get in there this morning and just create - fabulous!

Last Thursday it was our August card group meeting and I designed a tea bag sachet gift box and a matching card for the ladies to make.  See this blog post for instructions on how to make a tea bag sachet gift box.  It was a bit of a mad rush to get ready for card group and when I got there I realised I'd forgotten my SU! Simply Scored scoring board and tool so I had to go home and get those.  That made me feel stressed and I was already feeling very tired.  When I came to demonstrate how to make the box I made so many mistakes, I was mortified, so embarrassing!  I've made quite a few of these tea bag sachet gift boxes without any problems at all.  Typical that it all went pear shaped at card group but I think the ladies liked the fact that 'teacher' went wrong!  They are a very sweet and forgiving bunch luckily!

I started off by choosing the patterned papers, opting for two patterns from the SU! 'Blooms & Bliss' DSP pack.  I used SU! Sweet Sugarplum, Sahara Sand, Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White CS to match the papers.  Here is the box with the card and envelope.

Here is the card.  When I decided to make a card to match the tea bag sachet box I knew I just had to use my tea cup stamp!  I paper pieced the drink portion, fussy cut the tea cup and popped it up.

I had a trying afternoon and said it was time for me to book my place at the Twilight Home for the Bewildered!  The ladies made their boxes and cards without any incidents so they enjoyed themselves!  I'll have more time to prepare for next month's meeting so I'm hoping for everything to go swimmingly!

Tea Bag Sachet Gift Box - Holds 4 Tea Bag Sachets

A couple of months ago one of my card group ladies, Margaret, brought along to group a tea bag gift box she'd purchased and she wondered if we could make one at card group.  I asked to borrow it and said I'd have a go at making one myself first.  I didn't have time to have a go before last month's card group meeting and I didn't want to leave it for another month so I made sure I made a box before our July meeting!  I took it along and the ladies loved it so we'll be making one at next month's card group meeting.

Here's a side view of the open box.  There are 4 Twinings fruit infusions tea bag sachets inside.

I measured the box and score lines, jotted the details down and got creating.  The box is made using one sheet of A4 (or US Letter size) CS and is very easy to make.  A few cuts, a few scores, adhering pieces together and this neat little package is all done!  I prefer to work in inches as I can see the imperial increments better than I can see metric millimeters!  However, I wanted to include measurements for a metric version of the box here on my blog as well.  So choose whichever you prefer from the two sets of measurements below.     

MEASUREMENTS IMPERIAL:

1. Cut CS to 10 1/2" x 3 1/4" (for the box) and score this piece at 3 1/2", 4 1/2", 8" & 9".
2. Cut 2 pieces of CS to 7" x 2 1/2" (for the concertina sides) and score these pieces at 1/2", 1 1/4" 2", 2 3/4", 3 1/2" 4 1/4", 5", 5 3/4" & 6 1/2".

MEASUREMENTS METRIC:

1. Cut CS to 27 x 8.3 cms (for the box) and score this piece at 9, 11.5, 20.5 & 22.5 cms.
2. Cut 2 pieces of CS to 19 x 6 cms (for the concertina sides) and score these pieces at 1.5, 3.5, 5.5, 7.5, 9.5, 11.5, 13.5, 15.5 & 17.5 cms.

ONCE YOU'VE CUT & SCORED, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW:

1. Cut patterned paper panels/stamped panels to fit the front, back, top and front flap sections of the box and adhere in place.
2. Tie ribbon round the front of the box if desired.  
3. Concertina fold the two side pieces and adhere these to the box.  I found it easier to do one side at a time.  I applied strong adhesive tape to the back tab of one piece and adhered that, then I applied tape to the back tab of the other side and adhered that.  Then I applied tape to both of the front tabs and carefully lined up the top of the front panel of the box with the score line at the top of the back of the box before pressing down to adhere.
4. Embellish the front flap as desired and apply self adhesive hook and loop (Velcro) dots to keep the box closed.  Magnets would work too.  

I started off by choosing some pretty floral paper from the SU! 'Delightful Daisy' DSP pack and I chose my Calypso Coral, Night of Navy and Pool Party colour combo from the DSP.  I made the box and concertina sides from Calypso Coral CS.

Margaret's purchased box had acetate concertina sides but I find CS much easier to score than acetate so I stuck with CS for the concertina side pieces.

Pieces of the pretty floral paper decorate the back and top of the box as well as the front of the box.

The self adhesive hook and loop dots came from Wilko and they hold the box closed beautifully.

Here's the box filled, ready to be closed and presented.  I'm chuffed how this project turned out and now I know the boxes are easy to make I'll be making more for sure!

I'm attending a Slimming World group and each week I take something along to go in the Slimmer of the Week basket.  I made another box using different patterned papers and colours and placed the same selection of fruit flavoured tea bags inside.  So this box is what I popped into the basket this week.  

I placed an online order at Twinings for a box of their Classics Selection 'cos I know not everyone enjoys fruit teas and some people would prefer to receive proper 'normal' tea!  I quite like different teas and because I'm following Slimming World I've tried more varieties recently.  A current fave is the Cherry Bakewell green tea.  When I visited the Twinings website I was tickled to discover their Pick and Mix option where you can buy individual tea bags - what a great way to try something new without having to buy a whole box of a flavour you might not enjoy!  I chose a few different individual flavour tea bags (including Nutty Chocolate flavour Assam) and my Twinings package arrived today so I'm looking forward to tasting the different teas!
