Baby Boy Pinwheel Tower Card

Baby cards are rare for me but when I needed to make one I thought a Pinwheel Tower card would be great fun!  Instructions for making a Pinwheel Tower card sized to fit in a UK C6 sized envelope can be found on my tutorials page.   Adding in a wobble spring rocking horse makes it even more fun!  Here's the card and envelope together.

I've used a Sizzix baby die set which gave me options for elements on three panels so that was perfect. I made the card base from SU! Seaside Spray CS and I decorated the panels with patterned paper from the 'Penguin Playmates' and 'Snowflake Splendor' DSP packs.  The 'baby' is from the SU! 'Well Said' die set and the hearts and stars are from the SU! 'Mini Treat Bag' die set. The first panel has a wobble spring mounted rocking horse.  While I was assembling the horse I remembered I had some wood veneer paper in my stash which was ideal as the rocker at the bottom of the horse!  Some blue glitter jewels was my finishing touch for the first panel.

Here's the second panel.  The bib and babygrow are both popped up.

Here's the third panel.  The dungarees are popped up.  I used dies from the SU! 'All Dressed Up' set for the buttons.

Here's the fourth panel where I wrote my message.  I love that sweet sentiment from the SU! 'Bundle of Love' set!

Here's the envelope.  Because the card was fairly bulky with the wobble spring and dimension I used a gusseted envelope.  I popped up the name label.

Baby Girl Easel Card

A very rare make for me - a baby card!  This was made for someone I work with who has just become a new father.

I've used Pretty in Pink, Flirty Flamingo, Basic Gray and Whisper White as my colour combo.  Oh, my giddy aunt, it was so tough to get this pram die to cut out completely, it gave me forty fits! The Flirty Flamingo shape cut out but the intricate bits stayed in the die cut shape which actually worked in my favour as I was then able to adhere the Pretty in Pink die cut pram over the top.  It took a LOT of effort (and swearing!) to get the Pretty in Pink die cut but I was happy with the completed pram once it was done!

I stamped the sentiment, popped up the pram and added rhinestone jewels to the wheels.  I added a strip of silver mini sequin trim and finished off the panel with some stamped and punched buttons.  I haven't used the SU! 'Button, Button' set for ages but I just can't part with it!  I punched plain white circles and stacked a few together before gluing the stamped button circle on the top so the buttons have some dimension.  I added some organza ribbon and popped up the die cut sentiment panel to act as a stop for the easel.

Here's the white panel I adhered to the bottom of the easel card.  The very cute baby feet stamp was lent to me by my sweet friend Lesley - I stamped it using stamped off once Flirty Flamingo ink and stamped the 'congrats to you' over the top in Basic Gray ink.  I couldn't resist stamping some more buttons!

Here's the front of the envelope with a name banner and a baby bottle.  The sentiment and bottle dies in the die set were much easier to work with than the pram die, thank goodness!

Aside from the issue with the dastardly, difficult die I really did enjoy creating this card, it made a lovely change!

Punch Art Teddy Bear Congratulations Card

This congratulations card is for Zoe who recently became Mum to baby Jack.  I thought a punch art teddy bear would be great for a baby card - thanks so much to Joanne for the instructions!

I used the Owl Builder, 3/4" circle and 1/2" circle punches to make the bear.  I inked the edges of all the Crumb Cake pieces with Soft Suede ink and then assembled teddy.  I stamped the border from the Summer Silhouettes set onto Pool Party CS with Pool Party ink.  The border wasn't long enough so I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig and stamped twice in order to extend the border.  I stamped the sentiment, glued the Pool Party panel to the Very Vanilla panel, added a narrow Early Espresso CS strip and layered onto an Espresso mat.  I tucked the bottom of the teddy behind the Pool Party panel and used Dimensionals to pop up his body and head.  I added the ribbon and buttons and glued the Espresso panel to the 4 3/4" square Crumb Cake card base.  I applied Crystal Effects to the eyes and heart so they're raised and glossy.

Here's the inside of the card with an oldie but goodie baby card sentiment, some dotty Pool Party paper and a couple of glossy hearts.

I decided to make an envelope from Crumb Cake CS to match the card.  To make a 5" square envelope I cut the CS 8" square and used the Simply Scored and Diagonal Plate to score on all four sides at 3 5/8".  I glued a stamped and punched label to the front of the envelope.

Here's the back of the envelope with Pool Party dotty paper on the flap and an office envelope type closure made with punched circles, brads and linen thread.

My very sweet friend and neighbour Kath is always knitting baby clothes and I asked if I could commission her to make something for Zoe's baby.  Kath knitted a jumper from a pattern I chose, oh my word, the wool is SO soft and fluffy, I just kept picking the jumper up and feeling it!  In the end I had to wrap it up as it's white and I didn't want to risk getting it grubby before I'd handed it over to Zoe!

Pink Bootees Hello Baby Card & Altered Frame

This is what I sent to my friend Kelly to welcome baby Grace Amelia into the world and to congratulate Kelly on being a new mum!  What a happy time I had in my craft room making this card and frame, new baby projects are such a joy to make!

Huge thanks to my SU! upline Joanne who showed me how to make the baby bootees using the SU! Full Heart punch.  After trimming the Pretty in Pink hearts into bootee shapes I cut a strip of white CS to make the tops of the bootees and embossed all the shapes together using the Lacy Brocade folder.  I inked the edges with Pretty in Pink ink, glued the white top pieces onto the pink shapes and added white twine bows.  I set the bootees aside while I  made a side opening Pretty in Pink A6 card base.  I cut a Whisper White panel, stamped the sentiment and added a stamped and fussy cut lacy strip.  I also stamped and fussy cut the Gossamer Lace image.  I layered the white panel onto a Primrose Petals mat, added the ribbon corner piece and popped up the bootees with twine strings taped to the back before attaching the mat to the card front.  I then embellished the ribbon with a double stacked button and added hearts to the bootees and above the sentiment.  I used the SU! Fashionable Hearts Embosslits die which embosses as well as die cuts the hearts - one of the Christmas gifts I was lucky enough to receive!  Then all three hearts got a tiny heart shaped pink jewel.

For inside the card I cut a white panel, stamped the oh, so sweet, ducky toy image, added a lace strip, hearts and a stamped sentiment.  One of the hearts and the wheels of the toy got pink jewels.

The double stacked button embellishment made the card a tad chunky so I've used an A6 expandable envelope.  I stamped and fussy cut another lacy strip, punched a Full Heart shape and added two more die cut embossed hearts - and another pink jewel!  You can't NOT break out the pink jewels and lace for a baby girl card!

 I bought this pink 'baby is sleeping' frame with the idea of gussying it up a bit.  I decided to get rid of the thick hemp string hanger - not pretty enough for a baby girl frame!  I replaced that with some Primrose Petals stitched satin ribbon.  I then added some white and pink pearls and a butterfly.  I die cut 3 butterflies from Whisper White CS and glued them together.  I then applied a coat of Glossy Accents and once that was dry I applied a coat of Picket White Distress Crackle Paint.  When the crackle paint had dried I inked the butterfly with Primrose Petals ink and applied a coat of clear gloss varnish.  When the varnish had dried I hot glued a Primrose Petals Dahlia embellishment onto a metal brad.  I placed the brad in the centre of the butterfly body and tucked a pearly stamen behind the brad prongs to act as antennae. I then hot glued the butterfly to the frame.  I'm thinking if Kelly doesn't want to use it as a baby is sleeping frame then she could place a photo inside the frame instead.

 I was so happy to hear Kelly's news and relieved to hear Mum and baby are both doing well.  I really hope Kelly likes the card and frame - I have a feeling I may not hear from her for a while as she will be a tad busy!

I've had a really nasty cold and cough and had to take to my bed for a few days.  I actually made it downstairs today before noon (just!) so I call that an achievement!  It's been 5 days since I set foot in my craft room and I don't like going that long without a crafty fix.  I'm hoping to spend some time in my craft room this afternoon even if it's only for a gentle potter!  I know to avoid paper piercing - personal experience has taught me that sneezing and a straight row of paper piercing do NOT go hand in hand LOL!

Owls Baby Congratulations Card - Simply Stampin' Challenge # 75

Baby, Baby is the theme for our challenge this week at Simply Stampin'.  It has been a very long time since I've made a baby card!  I'm limited on baby card supplies but I had a wonderful time playing  with the lovely Nursery Nest papers to make my card - I love the owls paper!

I cut a strip of owls paper and then cut five owls out separately so I could pop them up on top of the paper strip.  I mounted the owls strip onto some dotty Nursery Nest paper, added the ribbon, the congratulations strip and layered onto a Basic Gray mat.  I threaded a thin strip of Pear Pizzazz CS through the holes of a Marina Mist button and added that to the sentiment strip.

For the inside and the envelope I used the fab ric rac design paper and I couldn't resist adding another owl inside!

Birdies "And Baby Makes Three" Congratulations Card

A friend of mine is expecting a little bundle of joy and I made this congratulations card for her.  Not a traditional baby congrats card I know but I fell in love with the sweet embossing folder and I thought it would work really well to convey "and baby makes three"!  I used three different colours of Core'dinations CS and scuffed all the embossing to bring out the details.  The card is A6 size and made with Crumb Cake CS.  I matted the embossed layer onto Early Espresso CS, added Crumb Cake taffeta ribbon and popped up the sentiment banner.  I cut out the birdies separately, added gem eyes and popped them up.

I found one complete 12" x 12" sheet of Magenta 'Robin's Nest' paper in my stash and thought it would be good to use it to make an envelope for the card to keep the birdie theme going.  I love my SU! Diagonal Plate for making envelopes and it might just mean I can make a dent in my paper stash!

I used a strip of the paper inside the card to tie it all together.
