Rose Wonder Pocket Birthday Card

Whilst browsing on Pinterest recently I came across the fab card below made by Lou Kitzelman using the SU! 'Rose Wonder' stamp and die sets.

It's a fun card - the stamped panel slides into a pocket created by the die cut wrapped around a piece of CS.  The die cut rose needs to line up with the stamped rose.

I was so taken with the idea that I just had to make one myself!  As I was nearing the end I realised I'd deviated from Lou's design - Lou placed her stamped rose panel on a mat layer but I missed out that step - ooops, I should have paid more attention!  I don't think it makes a huge difference to the finished card, I just placed my message panel on the back of the pocket piece.  I stamped onto watercolour paper and coloured with Bermuda Bay and Wild Wasabi inks and a water brush.  I opted for a black pocket rather than a Crumb Cake one and while I had the Curvy Corner Trio punch out to punch the ribbon slot I decided to round the top two corners of my stamped panel.  I loved the two strips of ribbon behind the sentiment so I copied that look from Lou's card.

Flowers For You Handbag Pocket Card - CAS Colours & Sketches Sketch #48

Over the weekend I visited Jacqueline's, Louise's, and Patricia's blogs to see the Christmas cards they'd made for this week's 52 {C}CT challenge.  On each visit I came across the fab cards they'd made using the wonderful sketch that forms the current challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches.  As soon as I saw it I loved it and knew I'd have to take part in the challenge.  I thought if you rotate the layout it looks like a handbag - well, it does to me anyway!

So that's what I did - I rotated the sketch and made a 4 1/4" square handbag shaped pocket card.  I cut Wild Wasabi CS to measure 4 1/4" x 10 1/2" and scored at 4 1/4", 5 1/4" and 6 1/4".  I cut a 4 1/4" circle of patterned paper, folded and scored it in half, added ribbon as a bag handle and glued it to the back of the card.  I then stamped the 'For You' flowers stamp twice, once in Wild Wasabi and the second time in Primrose Petals.  I punched out the image, matted onto an Island Indigo scalloped circle, popped that up onto a larger Wasabi scalloped circle and added that to a Primrose Petals plain circle.  I fussy cut the flower heads and popped them up.  I used self adhesive magnetic snap closures  to keep the flap closed.

Here's the card opened.  The strip of patterned paper is only taped at the bottom and sides so it forms a pocket so a gift card or money can be included with the card.

After I'd finished the card I realised I hadn't got an envelope the right size for the card to fit into.  My trusty Simply Scored was already out on the desk so I grabbed the Diagonal Plate and whipped up a 4 3/4" square envelope made with Primrose Petals CS.  I added a patterned paper strip and a stamped and punched label to the front.  Here's the card and envelope together, quite cheery I think!  Thanks so much to Jacqueline, Louise and Patricia for their fab inspiration, I had a very happy time putting this card together!

April 2010 Card Group Projects

These are the two cards we made at my card group yesterday. My love affair with birdhouse cards continues - and all the ladies at the group absolutely loved them too! The second card is a flower pot pocket card.

For the birdhouse card, we used SU! Really Rust CS cut to 6 1/4" x 3 5/8" and scored at 3 1/8". We then trimmed 1/2" off both sides at an angle to get the birdhouse shape. The roof was made with a 4" square of Chocolate Chip CS and a 3" square of patterned paper cut in half diagonally and glued together. We then used a border punch to scallop the roof trim. After cutting off any excess scallop bits, we glued the roof to the front of the card. We then stamped the wood grain stamp on the card front with Really Rust ink. The Chocolate Chip circle was punched out with the SU! 1 3/8" circle punch. The leafy stems were made using a Sizzix Sizzlits die and we snipped the shape into 3 and arranged the pieces around the circle. The flower was punched, then shaped using a DEET and moulding mat and a crystal added to the centre.

The bird is a Spellbinders die cut out in Creamy Caramel CS and we stamped that with the woven fabric stamp in Caramel. Jan came up with the brilliant idea of using a leaf die cut shape for the bird wing - it was perfect! We added a dot for the eye and popped the bird up with 3d foam pads. This card fits into a 5" square envelope.



For the flower pot pocket card, we cut Bazzill Sienna CS to 8 1/2" x 4 1/4", scored at 3 1/2" and 7" and cut 5/8" off both sides at an angle to form the pot shape. We made a scalloped rim using a border punch and embossed the pot with a Cuttlebug folder. Thin tape was added to the inside of the pot at the sides only to form the pocket. The foliage stamp was stamped in Pretty in Pink having been stamped off once and then the sentiment was stamped over the top in Rose Red ink. SU! oval punches were used to punch out the sentiment elements.

The white message insert piece was cut to 5 1/2" x 2 1/2" and the bottom corners were rounded. The foliage stamp was stamped a couple of times along the bottom in Pretty in Pink ink. The SU! Petal Pizzazz stamp set was used to make the flowers and leaves. All the shapes were stamped and cut out. The flowers were all popped up and the leaves were glued behind the flowers. One flower was attached to the pot rim, the rest were added to the white message piece. Crystals were added to the flower centres and we put a stand on the back of the pot so the recipient can display the card.

March 2010 Card Group Projects

These are the items we made at my March card group get together. We made a cupcake pocket card, a diaper fold pouch and a CAS Easter card.

We used Bazzill CS and Doodlebug patterned paper for the cupcake and decorated with punched circles for chocolate drops, silver Dew Drops and die cut cherries. We embossed the pink semi circle with the D'Vine Swirls Cuttlebug embossing folder before decorating. Highlight details were added to the choc drops and cherries with a white gel pen. The ric rac on the base is a die cut shape from the Ribbons Sizzix Decorative Strip die. The sentiment is a clear stamp from the Hero Arts Birthday Messages set.



The ladies wanted to know how to make a stand so that their pocket cards could stand up so we designed one on the day, it was a group effort! This photo shows the insert and the back of the cupcake with the stand. The sentiment, which is just perfect for these cards, is from the SU! Sweet Little Sentiments set. We added a punched flower with a holographic circle sticker in the centre. You need to keep the embellishments flat so the insert slides smoothly into the pocket.



Then we made a Diaper Fold Pouch using a 6" square of Magenta Robin's Nest double sided paper. I took different sentiment stamps so the ladies could make them for Easter or birthday. A Martha Stewart punched butterfly shape was added to the plain circle which we matted on the scalloped circle. We first stamped a speckle stamp (from the SU! Itty Bitty Backgrounds set) on the plain circle before attaching the butterfly. The bag closure was made using a die from the Spellbinders Label Trio set.



The final project was an easy 4" x 4" CAS Easter card using die cut shapes from the Sizzix Easter set of Sizzlits dies. The paper is from the K&CO 6" x6" Daisy pad and we added a scallop border made with the Sizzix Lace Edging Decorative Strip die. The sentiment is a Penny Black stamp. After I'd made the card I wished I'd have speckled the eggs with brown ink. A couple of ladies did that on the day and it made the eggs look a lot better.

Pot of Flowers for Kevin & Peter

I was telling Kevin and Peter about the card classes I was going to attend at the Glitter Pot and was trying to describe a pot of flowers pocket card. In the end I said it would be easier for me to make one and send it to them! This was to say thank you for the lovely flowers they sent to me.

When I made my card at the class I forgot to emboss the pot so I made sure to do that on this card and used my new Diamond Plate Cuttlebug folder. I used the Threading Water punch to add a scalloped edge to my pot. I followed Joanne's technique of sandwiching the notecard piece between two half circles and then attaching the flowers to the front half circle. SU! Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive and Taken with Teal cardstocks and the 5 Petal Flower punch were used to make the flowers and leaves. I used a DEET tool on a moulding mat to add lines to the punched flowers and silver Dew Drops were added to the centres. All the flowers are popped up with 3d foam pads. The sentiment was cut out with a Spellbinders Label Trio die.

Cupcake Pocket Stamp With Us Challenge Card

I've made a cupcake pocket card. I made a pot of flowers pocket card recently at a class at the Glitter Pot and I got the idea to make a cupcake one then - so huge thanks to Joanne for the inspiration!



To make the pocket I cut Choc Chip CS to 18 x 10.5 cms and scored at 9 cms. Then I trimmed 1.5 cms off both sides at an angle. (For imperial measurements I would cut the CS at 7" x 4 1/4" and score at 3 1/2" and cut 9/16" off each side at an angle). I stuck down the pocket sides only with narrow red liner tape. I then covered the front with a piece of striped Sweet Always DSP cut to size. The ric rac is Regal Rose CS cut with the Sizzix 'Ribbons' Decorative Strip die - the die is part of their Hello Kitty range. I then tied round some Choc Chip grosgrain ribbon and added a sentiment circle. The sentiment is a Hero Arts clear stamp and I cut it out with a 1 1/2" circle punch and layered it onto a 1 3/4" circle. The circle is popped up.

For the insert, I used my Coluzzle Circle Companion template to cut a 10.5 cms (just over 4") Regal Rose circle which I cut in half. The message piece measures 10 x 6.5 cms (4" x 2 1/2") and is sandwiched between the two half circles. I embossed the front half circle with the D'Vine Swirls Cuttlebug embossing folder and then I've added die cut cherries, 1/2" punched circles as chocolate drops and metallic silver Dew Drops - I thought they looked like those silver confectioners balls! I've added white gel pen highlights and the cherries are popped up with 3d foam pads. The sentiment is from a USA SU! stamp set (Sweet Little Sentiments) that my super sweet friend Dawn sent me. It was absolutely perfect for this card - thanks Dawn, {{{{hugs}}}} to you! I added a small punched flower and rounded the corners of the insert to finish.

Glitter Pot Class Cards

Joanne ran two classes at the Glitter Pot on Saturday and I attended both. Joanne loves, and is excellent at, floral punch craft but I have to admit to not being quite so keen on the fiddly flower trimming and shaping. Joanne knows there is often grumbling from my side of the table during our SU! Stamper's Ten meetings when we're attempting floral punch craft! I really liked making these cards though - and there wasn't even any grumbling!

The first card we made was this Flower Pot Pocket Card. After I came home from the class, I added a stamped greeting to my insert card and blinged up my flower centres with some Swarovski crystals.

The flowers and leaves are all punched shapes and we used a DEET tool to add definition and veining and large ball embossing tools on molding mats to add shaping.

The CS piece for the pot measured approx. 21 x 10.5 cms and we scored at 8.5 cms, turned the CS around and scored again at 4 cms (for the pot rim). We used a scalloped border punch to give the rim a decorative edge - trust me it's there LOL! - I've just covered my rim with flowers! To get the pot shape, we trimmed 1.5 cms from both sides at an angle. Then the pot sides are glued together to form the pocket and the rim is glued down. Joanne actually embossed her pot with a Cuttlebug embossing folder which looked really nice but I forgot that step and had already glued my pot sides together when I realised! We had a 10 cm circle which we cut in half and the insert piece was glued between these two half circles and the flower/leaf clusters were glued onto the front half centre.

The afternoon class had two cards but I'm a slow crafter, especially when I'm in a group, so I only finished one! It is this wonderful bookmark card.



To make the card we started with white CS measuring 25 cms and we scored at 10 cms to get the card fold and then used a perforating blade at 20 cms. The recipient can then tear off the bookmark from the card - what a great idea! Nestability circle dies, scored and folded in half, were used for the top of the bookmark. A hole was punched with a Crop-a-dile and ribbon threaded through.

We used a Hero Arts stamp (Flower & Leaf Branch) with a stamp positioner for the image placement. The leaves on the white CS panel were coloured with a Marvy marker pen and a wet paintbrush. On the white CS panel, we covered all the stamped flowers with three different sized punched and shaped flowers. White Opal Liquid Pearls were added to the centres. Three self adhesive pearls were added to the card front to finish.
