Pop Up Hybrid Birthday Card for Jack

This card all came about 'cos I wanted to use the candles sentiment from the SU! Whimsical Words set. I have a candles stamp but the thought of repeatedly stamping with a positioner and colouring in didn't appeal very much right now with my lack of stamping mojo! Hero Arts had a video on their blog this week showing how to use digital images with Microsoft Word so I checked out their digi images and found the candles. It was so easy to resize and copy and paste in duplicates that I had this printed out in a jiffy. I did feel like I was cheating a bit though LOL!

The card is A2 size. I took the colour scheme from the candles, opting for Certainly Celery, Tempting Turquoise and a touch of Real Red. I've added yellow Stickles to the flames to add some sparkle and the candles panel is popped up. To finish off the front, I added two rows of punched stars.



Then I decorated the inside with a pop up gift, punched stars and a die cut sentiment. This will be sent to our friend Jack for his birthday next week, hope he likes it!

Flower For You Card for SCS F4A1 Challenge

Friday's Splitcoast Stampers challenge used to be a Limited Supplies challenge. This week they've started a new one, the Free for All challenge. Today's F4A1 was Textures, Colours and Patterns. You had to use texture, a colour you don't normally use and the optional part was to include patterned paper. I'm still suffering a lack of mojo so I thought a challenge might do me some good!

I used my new Rellie Rave CB folder, ribbon, a shell button and domed candy dots for texture, Old Olive patterned paper and the colour I don't normally use is Cameo Coral.

The card measures 5 3/4" square and was made with Ruby Red CS. I used the same layout that I used for Owen's Valentine card. The leaves were made with a Sizzlits die and the flower is a Cuttlebug die. The Ruby Red square and the flower are popped up. I stamped the sentiment on the bottom of a punched out circle shape to echo the circles in the embossed panel. Hmmmm, I'm still not keen on Cameo Coral!

CAS Flower Squares Happy Birthday for SSS44

I've not been feeling well for a few days and my mojo has disappeared completely. I really wanted to make a card today and I found this lovely sketch over at the Sweet Stop blog. I thought I'd make things easy for myself by making a simple non stamped card using items from my stash. The SSS44 challenge was to include flowers with the sketch - not a problem for me! The card measures 5 3/4" square and is from Craftwork Cards - it has pink glittery flowers all over it. I've had a few of these in my stash for ages, it's great to finally use one! I've also used Craftwork Cards yummy pearlescent CS in pink and gold and a sentiment circle embellie. The pink scalloped squares and the sentiment circle are all popped up. My flowers are pretty Prima hydrangeas which were part of my Christmas gift from Michelle. I've put gem brads in the centre of each flower. I added a pink Prima to the sentiment with a crystal in the centre to finish off the card.

Spring Flowers Thank You - SA04 WMS Colour challenge

I fully intended to take part in the Waltzingmouse Stamps customer blog hop where the theme was spring. I meant to sign up before I went out on Saturday evening but I forgot and then by the time I remembered on Sunday it was too late so I missed it! Here's the card I made anyway.

I love Waltzingmouse stamps and I love the excellent service too. I lost my small flower stamp from my Say It with Style set and I contacted Claire and asked if I could purchase a replacement. Claire very kindly sent me a replacement free of charge, what a sweetheart - how fab is that?! So this card will be sent to Claire to say thank you.

The card measures approx. 6" x 6" and was made with SU! Kraft CS. I cut a piece off the bottom of my card and added a die cut scalloped strip. The green strip is SU! Celery polytwill ribbon that I've stamped the small flower onto using VersaMagic chalk ink. I was really pleased how the ribbon stamped so well! I glued thin strips of Barely Banana CS above and below the ribbon.

I've stamped the frame, leaves and flowers on dotty patterned papers and cut them out. The large leaves are glued flat to the card at the base but are popped up with foam pads at the tips to give some dimension. The large pink and small yellow flowers are also popped up. I've added a metal flower embellishment to the large pink flower - it had a deep red centre so I covered that with a pink crystal. I've added clear crystals to the centres of the small flowers and put photo corners in two corners to finish the card front.

CAS Circular Thank You Card

Yuck, it was such a wet, grey, miserable day today that I needed to work with some bright and cheery colours. I decided to play with a new stamp too.

I love that Waltzingmouse Stamps make stamps that co-ordinate with Nestability dies. I bought two sets a while ago and emailed Claire to tell her how much I liked them and to ask if there were any plans for stamps that went with circle Nesties. I didn't have to wait long, they were obviously already in the pipeline LOL! I've just bought one of the circle stamp sets and have finally got round to playing with the gorgeous solid circle stamp in the set.

To carry on the circle theme, I decided to make a circular card. I scored a line 1" from the top of one of the circles and glued this to the front circle so that the card stands up. Actually, this card didn't co-operate and kept listing to one side so I needed to cut a smidge off the bottom of the back circle so that the card had a flat bit to stand up on.

I used my large Coluzzle template to cut out both 4 3/4" circles that form the card blank and the largest pink circle. I've used Bazzill Mermaid Dotted Swiss CS and SU! Pixie Pink CS. I stamped the large solid circle stamp in Aquatic Splash ink and added the sentiment in Turquoise Gem ink. This circle is popped up.

Set of 4 Butterfly Note Cards

The butterfly images on these cards came from a box of tissues. When I finished the box a few weeks ago I kept it, determined to do something with it. Well, the box had butterflies on, I couldn't just get rid of it LOL! So I cut up the box and cut out and embossed the circles using Nesties. As there were 4 images I decided to make 4 note cards that I intend to give a friend as part of a gift.

I took the colour scheme of pink, red and black from the tissue box images. The Pretty in Pink cards measure just a tad under 5". I've layered with Real Red and black CS. The 'A Note for You' sentiment is from the Waltzingmouse Stamps Say It with Style set - I LOVE the font of the sentiments in this set! It's not easy to see the sentiment from this photo but you can click on the photo to get a larger view. I used the SU! oval punches to layer the sentiment and I've popped it up. After adding the ribbon, to finish off the card, I added 3 small black punched flowers with pink crystal centres.

CAS Spring Happy Thoughts Card

Today's CAS challenge on Splitcoast Stampers is to make a spring card. When I think of spring I think of soft colours, flowers and birds and so all these elements made it onto my card. My craft room overlooks our back garden and I can hear the birds singing while I make my cards. I have my Big Shot set up on the window ledge and I went to use it on Friday morning, looked out of the window and saw a fox curled up on our lawn taking a snooze!

The Pretty in Pink card is a standard A6 size but I cut 3/8" off the bottom and attached the Sage Shadow scalloped strip. I inked up the background stamp with Pretty in Pink ink and stamped off once before stamping it so I got a soft, muted look and then I stamped the sentiment. The flower was cut out with the SU! Scallop Circle punch and I cut out the leaves. The flower is popped up and the leaves are popped up just at the end but are glued flat under the flower.

I was chuffed to find the flower metal embellishment from my stash was the perfect colour to go in the centre. I've added a pink crystal. The bird circle is from a piece of SU! Spring Fling paper, I punched it out and matted it onto a larger Sage circle, punched a hole and tied it onto the ribbon knot with thin silver elastic cord. Roll on spring!

CAS Butterfly Note Card

I haven't made a challenge card this week and one of my New Year resolutions was to take part in more challenges. As Owen is glued to football on TV (romantic on Valentine's Day huh?!) I checked out today's Featured Stamper challenge on Splitcoast Stampers. You check out the gallery of the featured stamper and CASE a card but you must change 2 or more things. Today's featured stamper is HamiltonGal, she has a wonderful gallery. I chose this card to CASE - the page will open in a new window. I really like how she stamped an outline stamp in a coloured ink without colouring it in. I changed the colour, theme and I flipped the layout to landscape. Instead of layers for my circle, I've stamped a frame and I added a butterfly charm to the ribbon instead of a clip.

I knew this card would allow me to show off my fab new butterfly Cuttlebug folder. Yep, my love affair with butterflies goes on - as does my love of pink LOL!

I made this card 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" to better accommodate the size of the embossed piece - and the card still fits in a C6 envelope. I embossed Pixie Pink CS with the Jules Jewells Cuttlebug folder. I think it's meant to be used in portrait format but I think it also looks great in landscape. The frame stamp is from Waltzingmouse Stamps and the butterfly and trail are from Hero Arts.

As there is no sentiment on this card I shall keep it in my box and use it as a note card.

Note Card for Dave

When we stayed with our friends Kevin and Peter last August we met their friend Dave. He is so funny and he kept us laughing all evening. If he gets miffed with you, as a joke, he pulls out his mobile phone and starts pressing keys and then says "you're SO deleted!" I promised Kevin I'd make a "you're SO deleted!" note card for Dave as a bit of fun. Hopefully, he can send this to one of his friends when they've upset him!

The card is a standard A6 size made with Mellow Moss CS. I was inspired by this fab card made by ButterflyEars on Splitcoast Stampers - the page will open in a new window. I cut just over 3/4" off the right hand side of the card front and attached a strip of Chocolate Chip CS on the inside back of the card. I've used my new SU! Circle Circus set for this card, I think it's great for masculine designs, something I struggle with! I stamped the images in Choc Chip, Mellow Moss and Really Rust inks and then cut them out with various size circle punches. I've adhered them down the side so they overlap the edge. For the "a note for you" circle, I stamped the background image first, added the sentiment and then added the dotted circle which is from a Waltzingmouse Stamps stamp set that co-ordinates with small classic circle Nestability dies. This circle is popped up.

I didn't take a pic of the inside as I kept it really plain and simple. I computer generated "to say "you're SO deleted!" and printed it onto Vanilla CS and punched it out with an oval punch and glued it inside.

Valentine for Owen

I went to the Glitter Pot on Monday and found this lovely My Mind's Eye double sided patterned paper. I knew it would look great with Chocolate Chip but I was also chuffed to find it went very well with Really Rust. I always take my SU! CS colour swatch now whenever I go craft shopping. I thought that would make a nice masculine colour combo for Owen's Valentine card.

The card measures 5 3/4" square. I sponged the edges of the paper with Rust ink and embossed the Choc Chip piece with the D'vine Swirls Cuttlebug folder. The heart is made using a Sizzlits die and they won't cut chipboard and I really wanted a thick chipboard look. So I die cut 3 hearts from CS, glued them together and then glued the paper on top and the result was a nice chunky heart. I've popped up the heart with foam tape. I matted on Kraft and Really Rust CS squares and I sponged Rust ink on the Kraft square. To finish the heart, I've adhered a button with thin Rust CS strips threaded through the holes. For the sentiment I stamped on Kraft, did more sponging and used the Scallop Border punch. I've matted onto a scalloped piece of Choc Chip CS.



After finishing the card front, I decorated the inside of the card and the envelope flap. More sponging on the paper edges, hearts and sentiment. I cut out the sentiment and mat with Label Trio dies and have added Rust brads. I added 3 small punched hearts. The sentiment on the heart on the envelope says 'with love' and I added a small punched heart.

Grass & Butterflies Best Wishes

I just love this Hero Arts Silhouette Grass stamp and as soon as I saw it I thought it would be great to use with butterflies. Especially with a nice, shiny, new Martha Stewart 1" Classic butterfly punch!

The card is Kraft and A6 sized. I stamped the grass in Creamy Caramel ink onto Very Vanilla CS and then got busy sponging. Before gluing down the panel, I distressed the edges with a Tim Holtz edge distresser tool and attached the ribbon. I punched the butterflies using paper from the Basic Grey Bittersweet collection and ran my thumbnail around the butterflies to distress them a wee bit. I used an embossing stylus to pop the wings up and applied teardrop shaped crystals to the butterfly bodies.

I die cut a tag shape, sponged it and then stamped the sentiment. I've applied brown gems over the holes in the tag. Then I stuck a button onto the ribbon. It bothers me a bit as it's a naked button and I usually add thread or ribbon 'cos Julie Ebersole issued the "no nekkid buttons" rule when I took her online card design class! I didn't have the right colour or width of anything so it's remaining nekkid and I'll get over it - and it'll make it easier for me to have a nekkid button another time!

Welcome Home Card for Jim

Our neighbour Jim has spent several weeks in hospital following a heart attack and surgery. Hopefully, he will be back home later this week. I decided to make a little card to welcome him home and wish him a fast recovery. I thought the SU! Good Neighbors stamp set was perfect for a welcome home card. The little houses are so cute - you need to use the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to place the roofs on top though. I found the theme tune to the TV show Neighbours kept running through my head while making this - very annoying LOL!

The card is a standard A6 size made with Chocolate Chip CS. I stamped the houses, trees and cloud and then added some colour to the chimney pots and the end house with Watercolor Wonder Crayons and a blender pen. I sponged on Bashful Blue ink and some Old Olive ink onto the trees. I tore a piece of Olive CS for the ground and after adhering that, I matted the panel onto a layer of Really Rust CS. For the sentiment I used die cut letters.

Bird Thank You Card For Mo

Mo, a lovely lady from my card group, got a Bird Call Cuttlebug embossing folder as a gift but she already had that one so she very kindly gave her duplicate to me. I thought I'd use the folder to make a little thank you card for her.

I make a lot of square cards from A4 size CS so I have lots of strips in my scraps. I thought I'd make another scrapling card using one of the strips with an element that extends off the side so it will fit in a C6 envelope. The strip was a full A4 in length and I trimmed it slightly so it is 3" wide.

I embossed a piece of Core'dinations paper with the folder, scuffed the embossing with ultrafine sandpaper, cut it out with a circle Nestie and cut out a couple of mats. I used Black Magic Core'dinations paper that has a pale pink core which matched my Pretty in Pink card base. I stamped the sentiment and added a Prima flower to the ribbon I tied in a knot around the card. Then I added teeny tiny butterflies with crystal centres and some black candy dots to finish the card.

Birthday Card & Chocolate Bar Wrap for Dawn

This is the card and chocolate bar wrap I made to send to Dawn in the USA for her birthday. Dawn let me know it arrived yesterday - and she's already eaten the chocolate, and before her birthday too, naughty girl!

The card measures 5 3/4" square and was made with Barely Banana CS. The mats are made with Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant CS. I stamped the Medallion in Eggplant ink. For the centre element, I die cut a Banana circle and a smaller Eggplant circle which I embossed with the Victoria Cuttlebug folder. Then I stamped the circle from the Vintage Frames set in Perfect Plum ink, punched it out with the Scalloped Circle punch and added the sentiment in Eggplant ink. A couple of the circles are popped up with foam pads.

I've just recently got the Martha Stewart Classic Butterfly punch that punches out 3 butterflies. Well, I have quite a thing for butterflies and butterfly punches and I just love this particular punch. I love that the butterflies have a slightly frilly edge - even the tiny ones! It also handles thicker CS too which is great as I use SU! CS a lot. I think I may have to get the MS 1" Classic Butterfly punch too - you can never have enough butterfly punches, right?! Anyway, to finish off the card, I put a butterfly in each corner after popping up the wings a bit and added a purple crystal to each body.



Then I decorated the inside of the card and the envelope.



Then I made a wrap to go round a thoroughly scrumptious bar of Lindt dark chocolate with hazelnuts - I'm following a diet so this part was very tough for me LOL! I measured the bar and cut and scored the Perfect Plum CS accordingly and just wrapped it around the bar and used red liner tape to stick it down. Then I used a stamp for the sentiment, Labels Four Nestie dies, some ribbon and more punched butterflies and crystals. I love how the Labels Four die works with that stamp!

February 2010 Card Group Cards

These are the cards I made for my February card group meeting yesterday, all with a tree theme and there was lots of sponging! It was so nice to get together again, we had to cancel the January meeting so we hadn't seen each other for a while.

The first card uses the reflection technique. The reflection of the trees was made by stamping them on a piece of acetate, flipping it over, placing it beneath the stamped trees and rolling a brayer over the acetate firmly. We made masks for the moons by punching 1 1/4" circles and applying 2 way glue and allowing that to dry so the glue becomes repositionable. After the sponging was finished, we peeled off the masks.



I also offered the choice of a card using the same stamp and colours but without the reflection technique.



The third card uses the Emboss Resist technique. The tree was stamped in VersaMark ink and heat embossed with clear powder. Then inks were sponged on and the image was buffed with a piece of kitchen towel. Lots of die cutting and punching of circles on this card!



The last card was a nice easy punched circles card using the SU! Trendy Trees set. The ladies got some practice using the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig on this one!

Felt Flowers Trio Card

Today's CAS challenge on Splitcoast Stampers was a sketch layout inspired by this card - the page will open in a new window.

I made my card a 5 3/4" square rather than a rectangle. My flowers are made with felt - I've had some felt in my stash for ages and have hardly used it so I thought it was high time it had an outing! I used 2 Cuttlebug flower dies to cut them out and I ran them through my Big Shot as the flowers didn't cut out cleanly when I used my little Sidekick. I used craft felt which is quite thick and stiff, not soft like normal felt so I think it's tougher to die cut. I've joined the flowers together with gem brads and adhered them to the card with glue dots.

At the bottom of the card I've added Bashful Blue striped ribbon with a flat bow glued on top, a strip of Bashful Blue prints patterned paper and a strip of Night of Navy CS. I opted to stamp my sentiment on the patterned paper.
