It's time to kick off our March challenges at 52 {C}CT and Louise has designed this wonderful sketch for us to create with this week.
My first step was to select the Kaisercraft Twig and Berry double sided paper to work with and I took my combo from the colours in the paper, opting for Riding Hood Red, Always Artichoke and Very Vanilla. I made the red card base 5 3/4" square. I cut the patterned paper firstly into a square and then cut it into 4 triangle shapes. For the main image panel I sponged the vanilla square with Crumb Cake ink and added a punched sprig of holly that I shaped with a DEET. I added red pearls as berries and some Early Espresso stitched ribbon which I had swiped with my Crumb Cake sponge dauber a few times to tone down the white stitching. I popped the vanilla image panel up. I added square rhinestone gems to each patterned paper panel - blimey, it's much harder to place square gems than round ones, it took me ages to be happy with the positioning and even now some look like they're on the wonk!
Here's the card open so you should see I chopped the front of the card in half diagonally for a bit of a fun surprise - I do love shaped cards! I had the idea as soon as I studied the sketch but ideas don't always translate well into finished projects - I have to say I'm happy how this card turned out!
A clearer view of the front.
For inside I cut a triangle of Very Vanilla CS, sponged the edges with Crumb Cake ink and stamped a sentiment. I simply decorated the front of the envelope with CS and patterned paper strips.
I hope you'll play along with us this week at 52 {C}CT, this really is a fab layout! The other DT members will have provided great inspiration for you too so please check their cards before heading off to make your own creation!

Wow - love the way you have created this card Ruth - how cool is that! - Jacqueline xx
Ruth, this I great, love how you have shaped the card and how you started with the DP and moved on from there x
This is ridiculously fabulous, Ruth! Who would've thought to do a fun fold?! Oh, YOU! ;) I adore the minimal stamping and I just LOVE the holly you created on the front! I might be able to recreate that--thanks to your sweet gift! You are such a dear! HUGS! :)
That's brilliant! I really like the diagonal opening. Beautiful papers (Kaisercraft do make fab papers) and i love the holly branch. Love the inside and envelope too.
So pleased to be joining the team too - thanks!
OMGosh Ruth this is so fabulous. I thought it was beautiful when I saw just the front but then as I read and then saw how it opened my mouth dropped open in awe! Gorgeous papers and holly. Hugs to you dear friend. D
This card was stunning enough with its classic elegance and color scheme and that lovely holly sprig - but then you had to go and do a creative opening for it, too! Wowsers! Absolutely fabulous job, Ruth!
I should think you were happy with it- it's amazing, especially with that diagonal opening. You really ROCKED this challenge and you were there way before me! I see that you started with the papers too, I think it's that kind of sketch, but your holly sprig and berries are just beautiful too. Thanks for doing such an incredible job with my sketch
Louise xx
