March 2013 Card Group Projects

It was our March card group get together today and we had a very enjoyable afternoon - especially those ladies that got some new SU! goodies delivered to them!  Last week I held an SU! workshop for my card group ladies and I took along a selection of SU! only cards I'd made for them to see.  A few of the cards featured my new fave toys - the Dress Ups Framelits dies.  I absolutely LOVE those dies and I was assuming everyone would love them as much as me.  I was planning on having a dress card for the group to make today but I abandoned that idea following the lukewarm response that idea got when I told the ladies of my plan!   However, a card I'd taken along that I'd made with the Bordering on Romance stamp set did catch their fancy so I made a version of that for them to make instead of a dress card.

The A6 card base was made with Pretty in Pink CS and the coloured label shapes are cut from Real Red and Lucky Limeade CS.  The smallest label shape was cut from watercolour paper, the image was stamped on the die cut shape and I stamped the sentiment.  The image was stamped again, along with two small sprigs, on separate pieces of watercolour paper.  I used inks and a blender pen to colour the images, the three large flowers were fussy cut and popped up.  The small sprigs were fussy cut and glued to the label shape.

Inside  I cut a Whisper White CS panel and stamped the floral spray image from the Bordering on Romance set in the bottom right corner.  Again I used inks and a blender pen to colour the image.

Some of the ladies have been coming to my card group for several years now and they put in a request to revisit a card we made years ago which used my jeans pocket stamp.  Oh, so jeans pockets are fine - but not dresses, hmmmph!  ; ) Anyway, I like to keep the ladies happy so I duly dug out my jeans pocket stamp.  This is one of those stamps that doesn't get used a great deal these days but I would never part with it.  It gets dusted off occasionally but I'd much rather make flowery, feminine cards than masculine cards, you may have noticed that!

A few years ago I bought a man's lightweight denim shirt from a charity shop so it cost very little and I cut bits off so I can make actual denim pieces.  I also have a pair of jeans stamp and a man's shirt stamp which look great made up with the denim.  I stamp on the fabric with VersaFine ink and give it a blast with my heat gun to set the ink.  I then use double sided adhesive sheets to attach the stamped denim piece to a piece of CS.  Then I fussy cut the image and it's ready to go on a card.  The jeans pocket stamp also has the tab so I stamped that separately on a piece of Real Red CS, fussy cut it and glued it to the pocket.  I stamped the Dash Pattern stamp in black ink along the side of a white A6 card base and added a strip of Real Red CS.  I stamped the sentiment, stamped 3 black buttons, punched them out and popped them up.  I then added metal brads to the pocket to mimic the rivets you see on jeans and I popped the pocket up at a jaunty angle.

Here's a close up of the pocket - it looks great stamped onto fabric doesn't it?

I kept card number three fairly simple and fast.  I embossed a piece of Crumb Cake CS with the Birds & Swirls folder, cut it apart, inked the edges with Early Espresso ink and glued the 2 parts to the front of the cream A6 card.  Some embossing folders are not long enough to cover the entire front of an A6 card and this split panel trick gets round that problem nicely!  After stamping the sentiment I die cut the Lorelei Leaf from Gumball Green CS and glued that to the embossed panel.  I die cut the Serene Bird from Early Espresso CS, popped it up and added a jewel eye to finish.  Quite a neutral card this one, I think it would make a good card for a male.  Good grief, two cards suitable for a male in one card group meeting?!  The ladies will think I've had a bump on the head LOL!
