Snowflake Dress Merry Christmas Card - 52 {C}CT March Embellishment Challenge

Louise has chosen Ribbons & Bows for us to embellish our Christmas cards with this week at 52 {C}CT - fab!

Ribbons and bows suggested feminine and so I thought of my Dress Up Framelits dies immediately.  It really was only a matter of time before a festive frock made an appearance here on Flower Sparkle!

First off I had a rummage through my Christmas patterned paper stash to find something with a small pattern that would be suitable for a dress.  The snowflake patterned paper from the retired SU! Merry Moments DSP pack struck me as perfect!  To make the dress I cut the sleeved dress first from the patterned paper, then just the bottom part from Real Red CS, then I cut just the top of the sleeveless dress from Real Red CS and glued the parts together.  That red underskirt piece peeking out reminded me of the red petticoat Rhett Butler gave to Mammy in Gone With the Wind LOL! I made my frock more festive with narrow Real Red taffeta ribbon, a bow and two tiny red snowflakes with jewel centres on the shoulders.  I glued the dress to an Early Espresso dress form die cut.

I made a wardrobe a little while ago for one of my dress cards but this time I thought it would be fun if my card featured a chest of drawers with the dress standing in front of it.  So I got out my window die, cut it out from Crumb Cake CS, turned it sideways and stamped a woodgrain pattern over it in Soft Suede ink.   I cut the twiddly bits off at the top so my chest had a flat top and die cut a few more window panes which I stacked to make more dimensional for my drawers.  I sponged all the edges with Soft Suede ink and added brads as drawer knobs.  Once I'd got the chest on the card I thought it needed something on the top so the idea of a potted plant came into my head and was quickly realised with a few punched shapes.  Another bow dressed up the plant pot and I added red pearls as berries on the greenery.  I then made the sentiment as if it was a hanging sign, added linen thread, added a gold nailhead and popped the sign up.  Then I popped the dress up but glued the bottom of the dress form flat to the bottom of the card.

Inside I adhered a strip of the snowflake patterned paper and a Real Red CS strip, stamped a sentiment in Early Espresso ink and added three jewel centred red snowflakes.  I punched a larger red snowflake for the envelope flap, layered it onto a punched circle of the snowflake paper and then layered further onto Early Espresso and Real Red punched circles.

I had a very happy time putting this card together.  When I showed the card to my hubby Owen I pointed out that my skills had extended beyond dress making to now include cabinet making LOL!  Ah, if only I could do either in real life!  I hope you'll join in with our 52 {C}CT challenge this week and have as much enjoyment making your cards as I did!
