Black, White & Tangerine Happy Birthday Card

I went outside my comfort zone in making this card. I love black and white with a pop of bright colour - but I never choose orange for that pop. I'm really not that fond of orange, I never gravitate towards it. My friend Jan was telling me how much she liked Tangerine Tango. "Hmmmm," I replied, "but it's still orange!" Anyway, she kindly gave me a couple of sheets of CS and lent me her Tangerine Tango ink pad so I could try it myself. Well, every time I brought out the CS, I'd fiddle about but I just couldn't manage to make a card with it.

I recently saw a card on a blog where the stamper had used the Vintage Vogue set with a black and white colour theme and I'd made a mental note to make a card like that myself. So I decided I could add a bit of Tangerine Tango in with the black and white for that card. I still couldn't work in too much CS, I only used a teeny bit for the sentiment tag! I like the Tangerine Tango ink better than the CS, the ink seems less intense, and so I stamped my lace border and the small flowers with it.

The card is A6 size and I used Labels Eight Nestability die cut shapes for layering.  I stamped a Penny Black background stamp on the white Label Eight shape, added the cut out stamped lace border and used the SU! Little Leaves die for the black foliage.  I love the background stamp and the lace border, both recent additions to my crafty stash!  I stamped and punched out teeny tiny round buttons from the Button Button set as flower centres.  I used a Cuttlebug die for the tag, stamped the birthday sentiment from the SU! Vintage Frames set and added silver nailheads to finish off the tag.

For the envelope, I stamped a Tangerine Tango lace border and added a flower.  On the inside I stamped the Vintage Vogue flourish in Tangerine Tango ink after stamping off a couple of times and stamped the Penny Black sentiment in black ink over the top.   This time I stamped a black lace border.

I must say I like the finished card design - but I'm still not sold on Tangerine Tango.  At least I tried it but obviously I just do not like orange!  I've decided that's OK and I'm not going to fret about it  - there are plenty of colours I do like!  So I'll happily avoid orange for the most part in future - apart from Jaffa Cakes of course, I LOVE those!

Oh Ruth I feel your pain, I too am orange-phobic!! Yellow too.
I don't know what it is but they just scare me. But I love your idea of monochrome with a splash of brightness, may just have to give black, white and orange a go myself!
