Monochrome With A Splash Card - Simply Stampin' Challenge #60

This week's challenge at Simply Stampin' is a real goodie - Monochrome with a Splash - the splash being the addition of one colour of your choice.  In the past when I've made cards like this I've used black and white and then added a bright colour - typically red or bright pink.  I decided to do something different this time and I've paired black with vanilla and used Calypso Coral as my splash.

I stamped the large silhouette from the Just Believe set twice onto a piece of First Edition DSP, lightly sponged the panel with Calypso Coral ink and layered it onto a black mat.  I punched a Calypso Coral Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border and glued it to the black mat so only one half of the border shows.  I cut a Very Vanilla panel to go on the card front, stamped the small silhouette repeatedly along the right hand side as a border and sponged the edges.  I cut a strip of black CS, ran it through my crimper to add just a touch of texture and glued that to the Vanilla panel.  I die cut two butterflies, one from CS and one from patterned paper and I stamped the small silhouette onto the patterned paper shape.  I then applied Crystal Effects to the butterfly and to the flower parts on the main image.  Once those pieces were dry I attached the two butterfly shapes together with an Antique brad and assembled the card front.  The main panel and the butterfly wings are popped up.

Here's a close up showing some glossy bits.

Here's the inside and the envelope.  I haven't added a sentiment to this card, I may add one later or keep the card as it is and use it as a note card.  I hope you'll take the opportunity to play along with this fab challenge, I reckon monochrome with a splash is a real winner and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Ruth this is a triumph! I love all your little details - the glossy flowers, the antique brad, the background stamping. Calypso Coral is a perfect colour to go with black and vanilla too.

yummy, this card is fab!!! I love the crimped detail, and the glossy flowers! I don't normally like orange but I think Coral is the exception to the rule!

Fabulous card! The Calypso Coral really stands out when teamed up with black and very vanilla.

The addition of the crystal effects really sets off the card.
